  • Brexit or Breakup?

    From project-syndicate.org

Even after abandoning its empire, the United Kingdom hesitated for decades to join Europe. But it eventually did, and in the past half-century it became a proponent of European Union enlargement, and a champion of key EU policies such as the single market. But soon it will be one year since the UK decided, by a slim majority, to leave all of that behind. In the past 11 months, we have been told repeatedly that “Brexit means Brexit” – a phrase that leaves one none the wiser as to what Brexit actually means. But now that the UK has invoked Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, the fog has started to lift. The UK ... (full story)

Time for all to smell the coffee.

A bleak outlook.

Tired with Brexit, and Trump. The Brits are all grown up and willing to go it alone, The US voted for him, I do not understand all the hysteria, If Foxnews said the world is flat, CNN would have the Breaking Opinion that Trump flattened it.

Cliff,

Project Syndicate is notorious for its bias for Establishment Elite policy.

Funded by Soros, Gates etc, with Gordon Brown as Senior Editor, its a mouthpiece for Blair and his ilk to pump out their biased views.

Pretty much all of the contributors are lifelong "Public Servants" - which is a clear sign of institutional bias, as you well know.

I wouldn't put much credence to their views in all honesty mate.

Cheers
Shaun

The United Kingdom did not hesitate for decades to join the Common Market. President DeGaulle kept saying NON. We should have listened to his rejection.
The Werner Report also warned about joining the European Economic Community ( EEC ) as did senior civil servants. Edward Heath tried to make it more palatable to the British and changed the name to the Common Market, and lied to the general public.
Don't wait for the wind, take to the oars.

What amuses me most is how much control the EU will still actually have over the UK once the dust starts to settle.

Makes me wonder why the UK even bothered with this in the first place. Although I can think of a few reasons - none of them very good.

And to think, this whole thing started because David Cameron wanted to be voted in again, and have another term as Prime Minister. Delightful!

Never mind plagiarising, you can't even quote properly! It is "losing," not "loosing!" Dear me, even my 6 year old knows that.

You would think that the EU has some authority over the UK. The UK told the EU where to shove their bullying ways and Theresa May knows it

And if she doesn't stand up to them and refuse to be pushed around they will try and take her for a ride. Good job we ain't got the other pushovers in power (and hope they don't get in) who would sell their own grannies for a moment in the spotlight.

Totally agree, She need a decisive win, but we won't know until after the election. Verfluckstadt can't wait to get his hands on another weak UK leader so that he can push his federalist agenda in the name of democray, it is down to us to stop him and the clown princess Corbyn, McDonnell and McKlusky
