  • Trump is looking at new ways to go after countries that game their currencies

    From cnbc.com

The Trump administration is assessing the scope of its power to penalize countries whose currencies it believes are undervalued, according to two people with direct knowledge of the review, an effort to fulfill the president's campaign pledge to crack down on what he frequently called unfair trade. President Donald Trump promised to label China as a currency manipulator on day one of his presidency, but has not done so. That process is actually directed by the Treasury Department, which is not slated to release its official analysis of international currency until later this spring. Even then, many analysts are ... Studying and penalizing himself - two things you would not have thought about Trump.

I wise man once (recently) said:
"It is important to understand that Trump is first and foremost a negotiator. When he says things, it needs to be understood in this context. It is like a person trying to buy a used car. The dealer asks a certain price, but the potential buyer denigrates the very car she wants to purchase. The bumper has a dent. The paint is scratched. The upholstery is ripped, The car smells. The point is not to whine about the car.

The objective is to lower the price, get a better deal. It is not to express a fundamental truth or signal a policy commitment. Trump’s feint to depart from the one-China policy and subsequent back down seemed to curry favor among Chinese officials, and some suspect that it may have been behind China’s tougher stance toward North Korea."

Thus it goes with "currency manipulation".

IMHO, Be better off concentrating on sorting out the healthcare reform and immigration ban cockups in his own back yard before messing with international currency markets. I mean its not as if running a $20 trillion national debt is not itself a major currency manipulation.
Just saying..

Like @TradeGER,, I think your of course right .. thats his psychology... thats what he sees his strength in.
(Art of the Deal etc) But hes not dealing with used car salesmen or even high end Real Estate salesmen.. LoL
He s dealing with some of the smartest negotiators in the world.. That sort of shit wont wash for a second..
IMHO.. Statements like these are just chest beating and window dressing for domestic voters and supporters..
and the muppet media..
