Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report
In the week ending January 28, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 246,000, a decrease of 14,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 259,000 to 260,000. The 4-week moving average was 248,000, an increase of 2,250 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 245,500 to 245,750. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.5 percent for the week ending January 21, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. Filings for U.S. Jobless Benefits Fell to 246,000 Last Week
Fewer Americans filed applications for unemployment benefits last week, marking 100 straight weeks of claims below 300,000. That’s the longest streak since 1970 and indicates a healthy job market. Jobless claims declined by 14,000 to 246,000 in the week ended Jan. 28, a Labor Department report showed Thursday in Washington. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg called for 250,000. Continuing claims also fell.
