The market expects the" SIGNAL" about hike rate not the 21 Sep meeting and the signal become very clear on DEC meeting .

Forget about percentage of those in support/against. Policy makers do what they want. Remember how last Mario Graghi bombed the market. ECB statements, supported by technical analyses went the opposite way on the D-Day they came with interest rate

For an economist the author is (to my mind) too much in a rush. Sure we now are aware of the stir in inflation but that just came to notice (which is why it is such a huge development). But everyone, especially the Fed, need to understand how this has come about and whether it looks like being sustained into any reasonable future. Next and as a technical matter, the Fed would have to work out the lag implied by the money multiplier to determine when it might act wisely. Rates and issues related to their increase/decrease are very tricky and the consequences of getting things wrong (especially timing) can be so devastating as to call for only cool heads making these decisions. Indeed, no action until say December may be quite reasonable on the part of the Fed. The market therefore shows how authoritative it is if in fact it is pricing in a delay beyond this week. Which is why one is not so sure for instance that calls on Gold turning down for the rest of the year at this point is in the best interest of long - term traders. But of course a lot will depend on the FOMC and its take in two days.

Rates will never go up pre the US election, people in Washington actually still think the walking health issue (Hilary C) has a chance of a Win...... so rates will stay down. For what it's worth Trump's headed for a landslide victory, so they might as well raise now

"Signalling a hike" 3 months from now is kind of pointless... thats pretty far away and the economic data is likely to keep slowing between now and then. Theres no such thing as a "hawkish hold" when you've been kicking the can down the road for almost four years.

Well , given the choice between "a billionaire bigot egomaniac?" who's rallies have folks waiting in line for 4 to 5 blocks or "Adolfina" who can barely raise 300 at her rallies I'd say it's a slam dunk.

Funnily enough I've got "skin in the game here, in August 2015 I placed a bet at 45:1 with Ladbrokes on a Trump win.... so I'm more than a little biased!!, my hedge is Joe Biden at 85:1 (now that really would be a doozy if Adolfina drops out)
