Here's how to trade a geopolitical shock
On Tuesday morning, the Turkish military said that it shot down a Russian jet on the Turkish-Syrian border. Turkey, a NATO member, claims that the Russian jet violated Turkish airspace. Russia denied this, and its president Vladimir Putin called the act a "stab in the back by the associates of terrorism." Shortly after the news broke, Turkish and Russian stocks fell. The Borsa Istanbul 100 Index dropped by as much as 4.4% (the most in five months), while the lira weakened by about 1% against the dollar. Meanwhile, Russia's RTS Index retreated by roughly 4%.
