  • Why milk is cheaper than water in Europe

    From cnn.com

There is so much sloshing around the European Union that milk is now cheaper than bottled water. A liter bottle of water costs around $1.50; a liter of milk $1. The slump is a disaster for dairy farmers. Thousands protested in Brussels Monday, blocking streets with their tractors, and showering police with hay and eggs. While the price of milk in shops has fallen by around 5% this year, wholesale milk prices have collapsed by about 20% to around 33 cents. That's forcing many farmers to sell their milk for less than it costs them to produce it. The EU said Monday it will provide farmers with 500 million euros ($555 ... (full story)

*insert laughter here*

I don't remember the last time i longed the kiwi. Not since last year, that's for sure. Just sell the NZD on the bounces.

I personally am fond of milk, but this makes my everyday glass even tastier.

Please, by all means, continue this everlasting fountain of profit.

Every time the wholesale price goes down retailers just increase their margins so demand is static. It's all caused by a naive EU paying for US sanctions on Russia.

No way. No one in Europe buys a liter of water for $1.50 in the grocery store.

Oh yes they do. Bulk buy offers in UK supermarkets are about 45p (70cents) litre but many charge more and exceed prices stated. In motorway service station expect to pay minimum £2 ($3) litre.
Milk has been significantly the cheapest drink available in service stations for a number of years.

...Because corrupted EU politicians have a lot more $ interest in the price of water (Swiss Nestle), than in milk and boring farmers...

water prices can be very different among european nations. In italy a bottle of water costs 0,3 euro, in the netherlands 3 euro.
In northern europe bottled water is generally taxed to reduce plastic waste.

@Guest...... this is revealing of real indicator, people simply do not have confidence in their localities to supply clean water to their homes and any other public source of drinking water.

I resided for a time in Minnesota, the city, I tested the water with iodine first and then a pool tester due to the smell of chlorine....the tester told me I could not swim in my drinking water due to the amounts of chlorine.

Of coarse, I started buying bottled water.
