  • Schauble Proposes "5 Year Grexit With Humanitarian Support"; What The Other Eurozone FinMins Are Saying On Greece

    From zerohedge.com

As we await the verdict on whether Greece will be in or out, here are the earlier comments from the Eurozone finance ministers and others attending the Eurogroup meeting, via Reuters: GERMAN FINANCE MINISTER WOLFGANG SCHAEUBLE "We will have exceptionally difficult negotiations." "The problem is that that there was a situation at the end of the year that was very hopeful, despite all the scepticism of previous years, and that this was destroyed in an incredible way in the last months and hours. "We are dealing with financing gaps which exceed everything we have dealt with in the past." "We are talking about a ... (full story)

It is a slow day in a little Greek Village. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.
On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the village, stops at the local hotel and lays a €100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.
The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the €100 note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the €100 note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the €100 note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.
The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the €100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the tavern.
The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit.
The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the €100 note.
The hotel proprietor then places the €100 note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything. At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the €100 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.
No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole village is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.
And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how the Greeks will pay off their Eurozone debts.
Just trade the pullback you idiot!

Agree and this is true. I was referring to ZH and the quality of its analysis. If you traded their analysis since 2009, you would be very poor. They have been consistently wrong about the metals and equities markets. I use them as something of a contrarian indicator.

Well, I think anyone who trades off a news outlet would be up a creek without a paddle. I enjoy them as reading material because they write about nothing you'd see on mainstream media.

Although, if I had some call options on the number of increased typos I'd be of the cost of Barbados in a beach chair.

Mineral rights on the land are valuable in Greece. There are minerals under the ground. Property owners cannot access them, I think. The EU would like them.

Actually it just shows that the liberal left has created a class of dependent parasites who live better than most of the world on the taxpayers dime. Nothing better than driving by a subsidized housing block and seeing Mercedes and Lexus' in the lot, total poverty indeed.

You sound bitter about the possibility that this may actually exist and you are not taking advantage of it.

Or perhaps you are misreading the brand names on those 20 year old cars to enhance the illusion that your assessment of the world is accurate.

But more than likely you are merely spewing some nonsense some media blowhard has provided to you to make yourself feel better about the condition you find yourself in because you're too stupid to see that you are no better than the people you claim to be better than.

Never claimed to be better then anyone, just stating facts. Poverty level by the US Govt is considered 23K. The majority of people on planet earth make less than that per year.

I work on the street level and see the reality. I am assuming you spend most of your time here in the US walking the streets at night? I imagine you don't have much daily direct contact with the welfare class in America. I watch people collecting food stamps in addition to every possible other entitlement that they can get, and then smoke, drink, drug, and gamble 24/7.

The only thing I have ever taken advantage of is the opportunity my country has afforded me to work and pursue my dreams. Immigrants come here and live the dream they envisioned because they work. A simple concept, get a job, show up, get paid, and contribute to the community.

Ironic that all of your posts are angry rants, seems you may be the bitter one huh

Good day to ya

I think the issue is not that people are lazy.
The minimum wage is so small you can be working full time and still don't earn enough to pay for food + rent.
So the US government steps in and provides food coupons when the corporations should have been paying more in wages in the first place.
IMHO
Have a nice day

Corporate greed has nothing to do with people choosing not to engage in the work force.

It is a global economy, the same people crying boohoo that jobs are being sent over seas are likely the same people at Walmart buying products made in China because they want to save money, which is the same reason corporations outsource their jobs in the first place.

Go down to the welfare office and you wont likely see any Indians or Fillipinos....why? Because they come here to work, and that's what they do, work, buy houses, raise children and follow the law.

The notion that your life sucks because other people are doing well is getting old. Liberals need your vote so they need to keep you dumb and dependent.

Sure but it has everything to do with the disappearance of jobs paying enough to put food on the table.
It is common knowledge that decent jobs have been replaced with part time or minimum wage jobs and it is unfortunate because unemployed or underemployed people pay little or no tax.

I've heard that story here in Greece since 2012. It seems doable with certain conditions such as organizing the debt repayment path but the main problem remains.
No one lends without an interest(solidarity rescue plans my a$$), no one can lend the total 350bil. of debt and no one wants to write off some of the debt even though one way or another a huge chunk won't be repaid.

Yes fellow of Europeans. Your politicians saved ur banks and accumulated the toxic Greek debt in your country's budget. Your money is lost. Whether they say it is done by writing off debt and keep Greece in EZ or drive Greece out to default, result is the same. Your money is lost. The only difference is in the first case they certainly lose government but in the second they have better chance to stay on chair blaming Greeks.

•"We are dealing with financing gaps which exceed everything we have dealt with in the past."

That 'humanitarian loan' the Greeks had forced on them, just kicked the can. Greece owed much less before they were muscled by Brussels. Now, a moron is complaining that (after the bank liability has been shifted to tax-payers all over Europe) Greece is in even Worse financial shape. Greece would be climbing out of an admitted deep hole by now. After five years of deep austerity that has (and could do nothing else but) driven their economy deeper into the abyss, Einstein discovers that 5 years of 25% unenjoyment has put an even larger load on European tax-payers that can obviously never be repaid. It almost makes me glad I live in the US. No-one, over ten years old could believe that this whole financial mess wasn't contrived to drive the western world to bankruptcy.

I think the issue is not that people are lazy.
The minimum wage is so small you can be working full time and still don't earn enough to pay for food + rent.
So the US government steps in and provides food coupons when the corporations should have been paying more in wages in the first place.
IMHO
Ignored
Anyone in the USA can obtain grants (If they qualify based on income), or loans at very generous rates to obtain the education level that person needs for there personal level of comfort. Work a job, raise a kid, go to school equals success, period. Gosh that earlier poke in the eye must have hit close to home.
Forever learning....
