It never seizes to amaze me. The hits just keep on coming. LOL What's next, the GDP goes up because of bribes, oops, I meant donations, from the mafia? You just can't make this stuff up. Pure classic.

I just did a recalculation of the U.S. GDP with estimated prostitution and drug revenue adding in. The actual U.S. GDP is 8.4%.

I also added the estimated number of prostitutes and drug dealers to the employment stats and came up with an actual unemployment rate of 2.5%

then subtract 0.5% from 2.5% for the undercover PI's who supply the information to the statisticians, and unemployment is only 2%. unless I am double counting i.e. the informers are part of the "industry".

This article and your calculations left out another big source of GDP generator: Panhandling. Panhandlers can be a very lucrative profession. There was a panhandler who made $35K in one year just by panhandling on downtown Toronto streets, right by where I worked. Once I learned about her story and how much she was making from this newspaper article, I dashed out to find her to ask her what's her secret because she was making more money than I was at the time but she's nowhere to be found and in fact, she was never seen again by where we worked. Nobody knows where she went.

If you include panhandling in your calculation, I think the GDP growth rate is even higher and the unemployment rate is even lower. Never underestimate the power of panhandling.

She's a drug dealing prostitute in New York now, so I counted her twice.
