GBPUSD movement in recent sessions says it all - "NO" is having the upper hand on yet another Scotland independence referendum. Close(r) but no cigar.

I live in Quebec and the referendums always drives capitals away, money doesn't like instability. We would be such a better province economically if we never had a referendum!

16 and 17 year olds can vote on this. That is one heck of a crazy way to try starting a country. They will vote the same as their parents being submissive or vote opposite their parents being rebellious. They sure as heck will not be voting based on knowledge of politics and economics. At that age the lack of perspective is an unavoidable condition.

Short GBPUSD and very, very in the red at the moment. Pretty sure the speculators are pushing it up ready to tear it down tomorrow so i am going to hold at the moment. If not then the loss will put me neutral for the week.

What is the point of a referendum with so slight foreseeable chances? If "yes", just as many unhappy people, if "no", more anger and possible retaliation.

Yes or No - the sad thing is that this vote is ripping Scotland into two. I think whatever the outcome it could take years to repair the damage. Watch out for trouble if there is a no result.

Given the strength the £ is showing today i guess it means one of 3 things:

1: Everyone is absolutely convinced of a No vote.
2: Everyone is convinced its a Yes but we are better off without them.
3: Someone is building a very big tower just so they can have some fun pushing it over.

Hoping for 3

Even if the vote is NO, cable will drop below 1.6 to fuck with retail.

Anyway, this vote is not fair. Something this important shouldn't be decided over 50/50, YES should have at least 75% for it to come through, since we know most people are morons and don't even know why they vote YES or NO or what it will mean in the future.
Everyone can see the chart, but only a few can actually read it.

Whether its Yes or No, the threat alone will have devastating effects on the GBP. Remember Quebec and Canada? Take advantage of this morning's upswing, cause the downtrend is about to continue in a massive way.

This is just like the Greek crisis and Greek vote.

The media is being used to scare people . Who controls the media? The banks

It will be a big fat NO. Go long SPY, long DIA, short GLD, Short SLV, short VIX, and long IYR.

Silver and Gold will dip further. Silver might reach $16

My speculation is a 'NO' referendum and GBP will push to 1.65 and then large speculators will step in to push it to the floor.

Either way, its a win/win for traders.....

If they vote NO, buy GBP/USD. I expect (hope) a 2-3% rise.
If they vote YES, obvious sell GBP/USD. I expect (hope) a 5-6% decline.

Will be getting 200/1 leverage.

Execute the trade as the official news is announced in the morning.

KERCHING!!! lol.

Would it be fairer that the will of just a third of the population prevails over the rest? That's what implies your view of the 75/25.

I agree that a 50/50 is an ugly situation to deal with, because even if it's a no the UK would have to think about how to regain the confidence of the other half of Scotland..

75% of 100% equals 1/3? Wow, you are a genius at math. I wish you worked at a local bank. I would walk in everyday, and ask you to deposit 1/3 of my money into my account. Forget Forex, because with you, I would be making a 75% daily return.

Happy Trading, and please learn better math skills, before trying to set stops and limits.

Agreed. Might as well get it over with and let Scotland separate instead of suffering a slow painful and constant risk. The will to separate will never die down and it's gonna come up again and again and again and it will be difficult for both Britain AND Scotland in the future. All the businesses will pull out of Scotland, and Britain will do all it can do to seize all the North Sea oil rigs from Scotland to make sure Scotland won't have this revenue available to them ever for them to be able to separate, and the Scottish people, both who voted "Yes" and "No" are going to suffer and now their standard of living will go down even further but they will be angrier and will now demand even more and more for independance but now they don't have the means to do so anymore and would've lost all the bargaining power to negociate with Britain and Britain will be able to turn a deaf ear to Scotland even more. In the mean time Britain's stability will be forever threatened and will be forever downgraded with more risk to businesses and investments. And Britain will have to deal with surges for independance forever from now on if the "No" votes win. And you are right. This is EXACTLY what happened and what is happening with Quebec and Canada. With every single provincial election in Quebec, the whole Canada is always watching for the separation question and the separation issue is always there and never dying down even after Canada has taken all the measures to cut off Quebec's revenue-producing venues.

If Scottish people is sensible, they should vote "Yes". "Yes" is a win-win-win situation and a "No" is a lose-on-all-fronts situation for them. If the British people is sensible, they will stop with the pesky "No" campaign, let Scotland separate and wish them well. When somebody wants to go, you have to let them go. That way everybody gets what they want and everybody's happy and you just deal with anything that comes along as they come along.
Make your losses in demo. Earn your profits live.

LOL I think we found a genius here.

It was just a way of expressing my view on it, as if I had said 3/4 - 1 instead. I chosed a third. It really doesn't matter, it's any number between 50% + 1 vote & 75% - 1 vote.

Btw, you should become the new FF basic maths teacher.. you seem very enthusiastic about it.

So, 3/4 is the same as 1/3? LOL. Hey, I'm just pulling your chain. However, please show all your scratch work on a separate sheet of paper, when turning in your homework, so we can see how you came up with both of those fractions being equal.

Looking at the movement of GBPUSD before Scotland independence results are declared I am getting wary of my long positions. Need to close it before the result declaration and look for short opportunities.

Likely to drift down into Tokyo close on profit taking but what about London Open? And NY open? Could see alot of volatility with opportunities both ways.

Quoting OnlineAddict
Disliked
Even if the vote is NO, cable will drop below 1.6 to fuck with retail.

Anyway, this vote is not fair. Something this important shouldn't be decided over 50/50, YES should have at least 75% for it to come through, since we know most people are morons and don't even know why they vote YES or NO or what it will mean in the future.
Ignored
OnlineAddict it looks like your retail prediction is becoming true. Cable is depreciating in spite of a "No" vote. Surely it's not going to hit sub 1.6. That would clearly be a stop loss hunt since most are expecting instant appreciation. Ah....the vagaries of Forex....
