A European Lost Decade?

Calm down people. Neanderthals are not returning to Europe, and we are not going to un-invent penicillin or the telescope. The economy is going through a downturn - it is what economies do from time to time.

While the economy corrects itself, the rest of humanity keeps charging forward - even in Europe. Europeans are still marrying and starting families with people from other euro states, familiarizing and mingling with other cultures. Science, health, education, environmental awareness and social advancement continue. Patent offices are still swamped with new ideas and inventions.

All of these things advance in cycles - two steps forward and one step back, including the economy. It isn't fair to single out one aspect of development and claim europe has lost a decade, while ignoring every other element of society.

It will be just like Japan now on their 3rd decade of stagnation.

I would take stagnation than pre-2008 growth and then a meltdown.

Spot on and the 'central planners' knew this when we in the Western Hemisphere engaged in QE and zirp. After all, the only previous historical example we had, of its ineffectiveness and ultimate failure, was Japan.

I think as is today, eu lives beyond its means, contrary to popular belief. benefits of WW2 are over and there is way too many making living in EU as public servants. That will have to go in years to come and deflation will be present for looong time.

Other option elite is discussing for EU is war. That would speed up things. Knowing how they think, sure they like war option.

Infinity in a finite world? Continual creation of fiat currency? Think it through again.

Yen strengthened in that time till Abe introduced QE. A weaker Euro will introduce inflation.

It will be several lost decades because they are not united.

They need to print money but they shouldn't give it to the banks and boost stock market prices. Instead they should finance job creating projects and they should stop their silly arguments on who will benefit.

Even if a project is being built in southern Europe,
German and French companies can project manage it using Engineers and subcontractors from all over Europe so everyone benefits.
