  • Predict Less Make More

    From seekingalpha.com

It is a paradox of life that the less we care about something the easier it is to obtain, and the more attached we become to an outcome the harder it is to achieve. The same is true in trading, where we can substitute the word "predict" for "care". When I go to bed every night I know two things. First that I have no idea what the market is going to do the next day. And second that the method I follow will likely produce winning trade signals. I am very confident of both of these points because number one: predicting the future is a silly proposition. And number two: it is not the method that produces the trade ... (full story)

People dive in FOREX world like technical indicators, fundamentals, price actions, trading signals , trading gurus, rocket science and all crap. They forget the main two basics at the market - supply and demand. What I would like to say that - 99% of the information about FOREX in the web is shit, totally, useless, absolute toilet. What I did was actually follow advice from a man that I really admire - Robert Kiyosaki. In one of his books, he suggest that we need to find a hero to follow. I simple bought almost every book about George Soros. I am telling you , there are amazing stuff in there. All the things in internet you read now just copy from books or previous experiences from great investors and those thinks I would trust. The rest 99.99% that people with unknown background and info would not impress me.
PS - I express my opinion and article is nice by the way. Mr. Soros say absolutely the same think in his book, but the choice of words is different.
Happy Trading to all
By the way the name of the book is "The Winning Investment Habits of Warren Buffett and George Soros" - the author is Mark Tier. I really enjoyed it.

So, where do you plot your "supply and demand" on your charts?

Are you one of the less than 1% who makes a living wage from FX, quarter after quarter after quarter?

As for "hero to follow" isn't that tapping into the long distance 'guru trap' that you stated you ridicule?

Yep Soros is selling his knowledge for money, you are totally right. He really needs it, the poor guy. I think he was one of the persons that gave away 7 and a half billion of his fortune for charity. I think I can learn think or two from this guy. And you know I also know for certain that you and your hole generation and family with your relatives for 500 years did not produce 7 and half billion of something. Not sure if you even breathe that many times.

Hi FX Trader, you have to determine which way the market wants to go on a closed candle basis and from the ratios generated by the extensions and retracements....spikes are "resets" to scoop the stops of traders with lower risk thresholds...

I like your question.

I have heard that proposition severally and it sound too vague to me.

The big question is how do you quantify "Demand and Supply(D/S)" in a limitless and ever-expanding world of Forex.

I would rather see the market from the standpoint of continuous cycles of "Ups and Downs(U/D)"

I know D/S is the underlying force behind U/D, but it's too subjective.

I can see U/D but D/S is invisible to me.

Why look for what you know is invisible?

Well - the fact that someone is a "career guy" in something doesn't makes him successful automatically. I know tons of software engineers that earn 4-5 less than me and still are considered part of the "company career staff". Judging by the non-linear rising of the grumpy behavior of both these guys here right after New Year - makes me thing the big players they work for forgot for their bonuses, or at least messed the bills - not X times by 500 euros but X times by 5 euros :-))))).

My point, TraderBen was that I'm not less capable in my field than they are in theirs and yet I never allowed myself the luxury to insult others that do not hold enough knowledge in the field of industrial automation software. so why these 2 trolls mock at everyone here like they run the Quantum investment fund?!

There are quite a few posters on this site who to a professional trader clearly have no idea what they are talking about, but who mouth off making out they are successful traders and seriously mislead newbies/the inexperienced who have real money at stake and to lose. Try correcting them, you will be attacked for your trouble. It gets very hard to hold your tongue after a while. That's why most of the most able traders usually end up walking away from Forex Factory.

Ben, you can reason whatever you like, but my opinion is that great professionals give knowledge and teach for free, while wannabe runts insult and mock around everywhere. I've seen it in real life - have 2 friends from a local FX and investment bank that where arrogant as hell before the 2008 mess up - neither of them shines these days - but yet there is a similar appearance in the behavior like our 2 virtual heroes here. If they want to give and advice - let it go with patience and professional balanced point of view.

I like the reasoning about the 3 types of traders. It was formulated by a friend of mine 2 yrs ago:

"There are 3 types of traders - ones that lost a lot and talk about it, ones that never really earned some and talk about it and ones that make money and not even bother to talk about it - it is that simple!"

As I've stated several times before if you want to post think very carefully before posting. In short don't post shite and me and other posters won't slaughter you.

Actually, Alexeii have some point.

I've seen in the trading discussion forums a thread from a guy who claims to be a professional and full time trader. The champ was putting charts with nice explanation of a system and entry/exit points etc...

Why none of the wannabes in question here did not placed a 500 000 demo account to a trading explorer and show exemplary trading for consistent profit about 20% annually. Sure it is not a big time-consuming thing - compared to the tons of characters they keystroke each day...

Trading is very simple-what price does? its going up and down. To be a succesful trader...YES you have to be on the right side of the market....so find a way to be on the right side...you can only find the right side with macroeconomics in my opinion...

You both so remind me of a runt I brutally replaced in California back in 2011. He was even hiding his programming code and then was running day by day to the director to claim how important he was for the company - until after 12 months of bickering he came empty handed for a technical demonstration. Predict Less Make More is a really stupid title!

Isn't a method predicting where price will go. if not it's surly to fail?

Not all indicators are lagging some are actually leading if you know how to use correctly,of cause not 100% but nothing is 100% in trading!

I do agree and understand with some of what you say and get where you are coming from but man your vague!

Well, I hate to criticize but the article is too short for a serious topic to evolve and half of it is full with weather metaphores. Not that I doubt the author's skill - but it seems like they asked him to just write down several unedited paragraphs and placed them on article :-).

Anyway - the basic point is valid though - but seems that "trade less, make more" sounds more familiar.

Jay/Trout, I enjoy your articles. They remind me of things that keep my trading sharp, and they're freely given. How wonderful is that? Thanks for writing!

Everyone else, just a request. Snips in the forum are like failed trades - over. Let them go alone into the past. It keeps your eyes forward and your karma clear so you can accept what the market freely offers.

Trade peacefully.

Lol. I agree, not sure of the word count which isn't everything but it's not one of his best. However, he makes a lot of sense the majority of the time.

There's one more subtle accent most traders have to clear for themselves. Most commonly accepted "mantra"s are targeting some wise advices of what is the acceptable percentage grow of your account, what is the acceptable risk, etc...

But in the end - these are just dry numbers. They had to matter against the trader goals - either get rich of trading, or just amplify some of its income, or hedge against inflation, or want to acquire certain amount of money, and so on.

The underlying reasons for trading matter and they shape-out the trading style and expectations. Different people/institutions trade with very different agenda.

The not wanting things bad enough bit in the article doesn't work for me as I'm of the Gary Player mind set; "the more I practice the luckier I get". The more I put myself about the more people I've met that have influenced me and my career. It's always been that one extra phone call, that one extra cv sent, that one extra email, that one extra presentation I've gone to that has caused sparks in my life and a chain reaction.

Talk more, trade less and you give another day's life to your account but in the end you'll realize why you never became succesful trader and why the myth you created about you collapse.
