I think the data is not so bad. It's just unusual for China economy to decline. Ppl has high hope that it will continue to expand. They forget at a point it will decline. Just like the price of Gold.

Ppl, most ppl regards Gold as the safest haven. Only recently, ppl realize it also can decline.

Most analysts have predicted China economy will decline this year. For sure. 4-5% GDP growth is good China. More than that hides potential risks.

Anyway, the real problem is soft or hard landing. We'll see.

How is it a bad data given it's as expected as the Reuters' poll(12 economists polled)? It is even better than 50.1, which is polled over 33 economists by Bloomberg.

That being said, the AUD will be much more determined by the risk on/off sentiment this time. So look for the development in Ukraine this weekend. Also next week AUD is packed with economics data releases, and the volatility will be much higher as the week progresses.

Lol. I know the big weathergate was put on the housing weakness. If anyone remembers, the housing data was fading since October. A lot had to due with the home price rise and mortgage rates. Nobody cared because in October and November's employment data was abnormally high.

Interestingly enough, investor purchases in real estate are at 22-month lows. High end and investor purchases is what is holding the sector up, because new home buyers are at all-time lows. There might be an issue if hedge funds stop buying.

Nobody thinks housing is in a bubble, but many of the major cities have hit price levels not seen since before it crashed.

Oh, and the S&P makes new highs on shite data. Woooo. It's healthy for sure

Chinese New year is a factor, but a small gap lower in the AUD & NZD likely into the Asian open.

Ukraine crisis will not affect aud ?

Well, to some extent. But data is just continuing the trend started in December. The problem is, China's economy is not growing where the market wants it. I have read some articles where analysts believe the "real" economy is only growing 3-4%.

Credit swaps are getting to crisis levels because banks aren't lending to other banks and getting into government debt. Some think it's the start of similar instances that kicked off US's 2008 meltdown.
