AUD bears will still call the shots in 2014 given the slowing Chinese economic growth, soft domestic demand conditions, and the RBA’s desire for a weaker currency, argues Barclays Capital. "We think the RBA is willing to provide further monetary accommodation to protect the economy from additional currency strength, in the context of relatively weak economic growth and still-low underlying inflation. Australian GDP growth is likely to fall to 2.2% y/y in 2014, from 2.4% this year," Barclays projects "Although consumer confidence has picked up recently, consumer spending is subdued and labour market conditions ...
