Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in September generally suggests that economic activity has continued to expand at a moderate pace. Indicators of labor market conditions have shown some further improvement, but the unemployment rate remains elevated. Available data suggest that household spending and business fixed investment advanced, while the recovery in the housing sector slowed somewhat in recent months. Fiscal policy is restraining economic growth. Apart from fluctuations due to changes in energy prices, inflation has been running below the Committee's longer-run objective, but ... (full story)

Not surprised. Fed did NOT taper back in September while housing market was going much stronger than now, and had been pretty solid on its benchmarks - 6.5 unemployment rate and 2.0 inflation rate.

Thanksgiving and Christmas will be up for the next two months, by then hopefully we will see some solid evident of recovering that is good enough to support the tapering.

I remember these past few months usd sold when there was no tapering...now people are saying buy. It proves that these news are not what affects the market cause if it was news then dollar should go down again.

It is not what the FED says, it is what the market thinks the FED was going to say.

When the FED prints money the US$ leaves the US heading for BRICS countries and other such places. This has weakened the dollar and heavily strengthened the prices of BRICS currencies (to their dismay).

When BB hinted that the FED was considering reducing the QE, i.e. tapering, the US$ started to flood back to the USA because the market took that as a sign that the US economy and stock market and bond yields are about to become more interesting. That flow strengthens the US$ and weakens the BRICS currencies.

So for now the market's view has not changed and the only thing delaying tapering, IMHO, are the clowns in the US government.

It may mate, but what I think is that the effects of the Fed will dwindle as long as purchases remain at $85B.

With all remaining equal, now the equities trader get to look at the dismal US and global data. It may grind higher, but if conviction declines and equities go up because it's the only yielding asset, that's called a bubble my friend.

Not given the MASSIVE stockpile and poor growth outlook. Crude has probably been the most accurate economic trade this year

Why not????
Market was expecting more dovish tone fromFOMC. And none thought Octaber taper after govt. shut down. Actually market is priced taper for next year. But today's FOMC suggest that they might taper this year. Look at unemployment rate 7.2% . Fed said they will exit from qe if unemployment rate decrese to 6.5% or thereabout. So it may gradually starts from next FOMC.... but overall I think it is usd positive...

You are wrong in every sense. And so is KLM2020 when he answered your post.

If the taper was on it would be USD Bullish, as they would be printing LESS money, which would give the dollar more value.

There was no mention at all of Tapering in the statement, this could be a RISK OFF trade or perhaps the statement was slightly hawkish.

Every single release that Fed does not taper, is a release closer to the taper...Further, $85b is the limit for stimulus, and it is not going to go on forever. I am with you on this Anon...Markets unlikely to continue w/o stimulus.

FOMC Statement not dovish enough for the market, USD rallies. They removed the comment about the tighter fiscal conditions impacting on the economy. USD strength will play out for now.
