  • First US Shutdown in 17 Years at Midnight Seen Probable

    From bloomberg.com

The U.S. government stands poised for its first partial shutdown in 17 years at midnight tonight, after a weekend with no signs of negotiations or compromise from either the House or Senate to avert it. Republicans and Democrats in Congress say they don’t want a shutdown, though neither side is budging from their positions to avoid one. House Republicans want to delay President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act for a year and make other changes to the health law. The Democrats vow not to let that happen. Hanging in the balance are 800,000 federal workers who would be sent home tomorrow if Congress fails to pass ... (full story)

It will be business as usual tomorrow and next week.

That right.......NO EFFECT what so ever. It has really been shut down for the last 40 years anyway. It will be business as usual no matter what happens.

Ouao!! Seriously you guys?

You guys really don’t know anything about trading.

History repeat it self !

Step one:
If this US shutdown will actually happen, EURUSD will dropped to 1.30 in just few days.
Why? Hmm, that is easy just go and see what happened in Nov 1995 to Jan 1996.
EURUSD dropped 600 pips.
There will be risk in the market so USD strong!

Step 2:
If they found a solution on this US shutdown, then yes..
EURUSD 1.40 !!

Anyway, have fun tradingi dont remebr the sep 24t

There wasn't a euro in 95-96 you bozo. What you see before 2000 is a fantasy accumulation of SOME of the then European currencies on the Schengen Agreement application(Mar.95) aftermath and their devaluation on the road for the common currency.

Calling it a shutdown and all the fretting about default is bogus. Revenues continue to come in and debt continues to be paid so no default. Other operations continue so not a shut down. "Shutdowns" have occurred something like 17 times and we are still here.

What does happen is the government has to decide what to continue and what to cut. That should be things like funding a study of snails on a treadmill instead of infrastructure repair but that would prove that government has a lot of waste.

When the situation is resolved the laid off government workers will be given their back pay. That's a glaring example of how stupid government is. It would not happen anywhere else. btw - 4 of 6 communities with average incomes over double the national average are right around Washington DC and filled with government workers.

Sequestration has been the only successful budget move in years and that was with both the Democrats and Republicans opposing it. They just managed to collectively back themselves into it.

You have heard about a soft landing for how long? Would not need a soft landing if an economy was based on a solid footing. But both personal and national economies are based on deficit spending. There would be nothing better than a government shut down for several months.

No shutdown. They will resolve tomorrow morning at 430AM.

The US has 124 trillion in unfunded liability.

The system is broke. The US is the most dysfunctional corporation.

I have no doubt the exchanges will have major problems tomorrow meeting the demand from people with pre-existing conditions who can now get coverage and people with low incomes who are eligible for help in paying for their coverage. Delaying somebody with cancer or other serious illnesses for a year who can't get health coverage and the treatment they need, or forcing them to go bankrupt is an unspeakably cruel and sinful act. "Therefore by their fruits you will know them."

Actually , I am not convinced the idea ( if shutdown will happen there will be risk in the market so USD strong)

We need to consider that shutdown will cause 2 million
personnels to be jobless = bery huge raise to unemployment claims ....
