  • Member subscribing added to profiles

    From forexfactory.com

We hope you’ve been finding the new member profiles useful! Many thanks to those who provided feedback and reported bugs! With the kinks now worked out, we’ve turned our attention to adding features and functionality to the profiles. The first major addition is ‘member subscribing’ — you can now subscribe to a member, just like you would subscribe to a thread or story. This new functionality brings about several changes that may have you scratching your head without some explanation… 1. ‘Buddies’ are now mutually-subscribed members Previously, buddy status was fairly inconsequential — you could add ... 1) "you could add anyone to your buddy list without further effect" - this is technically not true. If one opened a thread and restricted posters by specifying a minimum vouch-count, then 'buddies' could also post in the thread even if they did not have sufficient vouches. Thx

I really don't see the point of these 'enhancements'......at all. It has made the whole profile page look confused, which it definitely is, and has brought absolutely nothing of any value to the page. It looks like change for changes sake and seems to be a classic example of fixing something that wasn't broken.

Sorry, but it is a complete mess, hard to navigate and understand and a pointless exercise.

I don't know how much more of the 'enhancements' I'm going to tolerate, but it won't be too many more.

So much for privacy. Now everything I do is available for public viewing....who I ignore, what I subscribe to and a who lot more.....where is the respect for the members privacy????? Who makes this website pay?....the MEMBERS do!! This SUCKS big time.....how long will it be before more of our details are available to the W W W.....god forbid the Trade Explorer account numbers get revealed.

An utter exercise in gross stupidity, and I'm thinking very seriously whether I want to be a part of this crap any more,. Perhaps I'll just end it all, and close the 5th most popular thread on the Trading Systems forum out of respect for the privacy of the members.

Totally agree with realjumper. I thought you guys did an awesome job with the first few upgrades but this last one is confusing and I really wish you'd undo it. Subscribers are a mess.

Realjumper said it best... no way I can improve on that.

Sounds like I need to unvouch everyone I ever vouched for, unbuddy everyone I ever buddied & ask them to do the same for me, those that are still here anyway.

At this rate, the vouching system won't be the only thing phased out, "this" plus "that" plus all the other so called "improvements" are just helping to phase out all us old school types as well, which by many of our own admissions is happening anyway. I suppose I should be grateful for the push....

It is a mess ... All these frequent changes don't allow people to use friedly this system. Particularly this last one is not appreciated; I want to be able to make my decisions about my privacy sharing.

Oh, c'mon, these "optimizations" are stupid ideas stacking one on top of the other, instead of making FF an excellent tool they're simply leading people out of this site, where privacy does really matter.

I have a question... altho I absolutely hate these new "improvements" (and ESPECIALLY this last round), if the current vouching system gets turned into some kind of mumbo jumbo subscription thing down the road, (which I freely admit to having no idea what you guys meant by that), does that mean if I vouch for & buddy EVERY REGISTERED MEMBER on FF right now (except for murky seat) that someday I'll have be grandfathered into having even more "subscriptions" than SupremeChaos?

Cuz that might make me a believer... (thinking....) (still thinking.....)

Nope, it's still an Epic Fail.

(Note to SC... you know I luv ya bro!)

Before I got into FX trading....or at my early stages of FX learning, I was the senior developer for an International Tertiary Education organization here, and I'm telling you, that I would have been fired for making these kinds of arbitrary changes without consulting the end users of both the Intranet that I developed and the company website/forum.

If the voucher system is to go, and I don't care if it does, but if you take away my ability to control who posts to the Genesis thread, I will be gone too (if I'm still here at the time, which is doubtful at the rate of stupid 'enhancements' you lot are making), and the 5th most popular thread in the Trading Systems forum will die.....and you can take that to the bank!

Further, you say that "the focus is on content discovery, not

When vouchers disappear, if I have no control over who can post to my thread...I too will disappear.

The 'developers' say on the blog that " the focus is on content discovery, not “social.”"....yet this place looks more and more like Facebook everyday.

These changes are stupid and bring NOTHING to the site......indeed the profiles now look like something a 12 year old would make, completely unprofessional......

I disagree completely with the Subscribed members (including ignored), if used only for Personal Member interests - 'not shown' to the Public. It's Member Privacy.

I would suggest Vouch Systems persists and alive !
The Vouch Systems an identical as the System in FF Forum and Spirit for Traders in FF. Required more stringent filter to get it.
(example : Need Seven or more Vouchers who's can vouch for any FF member)

I had thought I was the only one that did not like these new improvements but have seen that a few here are in the same boat as me. I want to be able to have more control of what happens when I am subscribed to a thread like not getting emails for every knew entry in a thread I am part of. That option seems to have gone with the new changes. Why and what these FF mods are trying to archieve, I can not immagine. I wish I knew. Will see how it panes out. Jokers!!

realjumper, we did not edit your post. Forex Factory's policy is to never edit someone's post unless there's a copyright violation or the posters asks us to. It appears you ran into technical issues with your comments, we will look into it.

mohan76, to mass-edit your subscriptions, click on 'Controls' at the top of the Subscriptions box.

Sharemaster, you can still change the frequency of the subscription email alerts. You can do it on a mass level via the method I explained to mohan76 above, or you can hover over the subscription on your profile and click the little wrench icon that appears.
