  • AUD/USD - Double Bottom Attempt

    From fxtimes.com

Double bottom: AUD/USD has been bearish since April 2013 and has not found a bottom yet. Every bottom attempt has been faded. After a low of 0.9033 last Friday, AUD/USD started this week failing to push below that and ended up completing a double bottom by the 7/9 US session, as seen in the 4H chart. The double bottom could turn out to be just sideways action because price has not been able to clear 0.9182 resistance. Instead if price falls below 0.91, it is likely still sideways-bearish with focus back on the 0.9033 low with further downside risk in the near-term toward the 0.90 handle. A break above 0.9182 opens up ... (full story)

I think we'll be seeing 0.8700 before we see 0.9500

There are local predictions of as low as 0.8000 in the current down run. RBA hinted at several more interest rate drops this year, and interest rate cuts always drag the aussie lower.

I'm not sure of a low, but I definitely have 0.8850 as a possible target. Just have to wait until this current correction finds a top. Happy Trading!

Might be 25 to 50 pips to far seeing how WS2 is .8875 and MS1 is .890.

EU is a bit of a mess at the moment. I was thinking it might possibly go up to 1.2950-80 area. That's near the 1hr 200ma and prior broken support area. With the lack of news in the US session to move things...it might just stay in a 1.2850-2900 range. And if it goes down, most likely 1.2800 should be some support without anything to really drive it lower.

I'll probably just watch this pair instead of trade it until there are some clearer signals.

I understand that alot of you guys are shorter term traders - but just for fun, go pull a weekly chart of AUD/USD and get enough data on the screen to " at least" see 2009 - 2010.

Now take out a "crayola crayon" and not your "laser pointers" - and draw a couple horizontal lines of support and resistance.

You certainly see the area we are currently at? The recent "waterfall" has brought us to an area of solid, major long term support as the larger the time frame - the greater the significance of the lines.

Probability wise - you'd have to expect a bounce higher here (yes "higher" before we see AUD head lower) as it's unlikely price will simpley just "slice" through this zone.

See how looking at the long term picture can help you make short term decisions?

Guys i don't think EU in a mess. Look at daily chart. We have clearly broken below trendline and today have retested it as resistance. It opens up 1.2743 previous low. There is a bullish divergence, but below that trendline we are clearly bearish.

If E/U can fall below the 1.2844 pivot today, the focus should be back to the 1.2805 low. Otherwise, consolidation/correction mode is very much alive I believe

I could be completely wrong, but I don't see any reason for USD strength today..probably not tomorrow either.

With the exception of GU due to bad news today. AU is up, EU and UJ are basically flat. UCad is down.

Yes.....it's tough to contribute much here without getting prepared for some kind of "battle". I'm just gonna keep on rollin. People can take from it what they choose.

Were sterling is concerned IMO Carney will lean on the MPC through his forward guidance to increase monetary easing/bond buying. The latest print for uk manufacturing will have spooked the BoE and the UK govt. I see cable continuing this trend that developed since the 18th-19th June.

Yes this has been very well known for some time now

These things rarely play out in markets in any immediate way as the big boys have known ( and have already been trading this information) for months now.

In fact its usually quite the opposite - just about the time retailers get the headline -risk related currencies "pop" and catch the usual crowd on the wrong side of the trade.

My short USD vs NZD and AUD both in profit - and look solid when USD does indeed finish this turn.

Thank you BaitUp, I just meant I was wrong about e/u finding support at 1.2800 today. It's gone past that. But yes, E/U was stubborn above 1.3000, but once we got that close below, things have been nice to the downside. Happy Trading!

But what was it worth in the first place. If they or any other setup could forecast anything with any degree of meaningful accuracy 3/4 of the worlds problems would have been solved. Why did they cut it? Because it was off in the first place. Has their modeling improved since? Of course not. Think about it. GDP is in the realm of chaos and chaos tells us not to attempt such nonsense as making long - term forecasts. In any case my point was just to remind you by this instance that we have here a live example and one reason why fundamental analysis is nonsense - chaos says to ignore it. You would be smart to heed. Cheers

Not this time boys - and I see the rest of the "band wagon" has now joined in.

I love it!

Here's whats going to happen. FF is gonna take on a nice lil "reno", and a move in the right direction.

Thus far - you guys have had (literally) not a single constructive thing to say since - well....since I've been here anyway.

So - We'll put a time frame on it of maybe a couple weeks, as more and more traders will be encouraged to do the same as myself, and not tolerate you "killing" every single conversation with this stuff.

How can anyone possibly have anything to gain from listen / reading this?

Keep atter boys - let's see how it goes.

One thing for certain - I'm not going anywhere.

Advice? Any newbee who hasn't been here long enough to know better would have been seriously hurt if they had listened to his "advice" since at least the end of last month and shorted USD.

And he wonders why he gets "unwanted attention"! And why his "advice" to short the USD has been shown for what it has been to date!

Sell gbp/usd 1.4947....Sell gbp/usd 1.4948...Sell eur/usd 1.28722. Only a couple days old. With stop about 25 pips from current price. Been selling for weeks on DCB's...in and out. This, combined with a buck fifty will buy you a 7-11 coffee. You see...I did not state any of this ahead of time so it is COMPLETELY USELESS.

I had just closed a couple of very large positions at profit on these pairs...and got back in with much smaller positions just to stay in it a little longer. Just taking profits...nothing Guru about it.

I have to say, the AUD is quite resilent today. Not sure if it's setting up for a fall soon inline with the overall downtrend or if we really have found some type of double bottom at the 9040-50 area.

While I'm waiting for AU to take out the 9200 level and head for either 9250 or 9300...it's a good show to watch.

Well you know that is crap - what in the first place is fundamentals and how do you put it together to decide direction and what if direction does not comply? The thing is this pit trader pivots explain the market far better.

Lets say the two CB's on each side of a pair have put out policy (think EUR/USD) then what next? Simple - all those trading for the money pots clearly do not wake up with any idea what the next trader for another money pot is going to do - so they (and therefore we) watch levels defined by pit trader pivots (or other approximations of the same thing whether fibs or something else). So depending on term traders would be watching Monthly, Weekly and Daily pivots to enter and exit trades especially around their mid lines per period (around market or period open). Why? Because mathematically the very act of profit taking given a dominant side per period averages up or down the rate and you get a new mean each period be it daily, weekly or monthly (minute or whatever time frame you care about).

Hence mean reversion (here illustrated by the static kind - there is of course the dynamic variant which is the more powerful). So we watch levels on that basis having understood this (like today the Euro started the week by trading up to the weekly average and pivoted off of it to give me my daily bread all the way down 1300 + points and there is more to come).

So whatever else anyone wants to think - I would simply say KISS - it is no more than I have described. But of course there is some simplification here and you need chaos math and fractal geometry to map the rest for precision and effective timing and measurement of instantaneous momentum as well as cycles and their phases. Ok may be gone too far - but you know me.

Cheers and nice to see you around - hope you are doing ok - I like you very much for being yourself always - keep it up.

That was a quote from our good friend Fx Kong. Thought you might enjoy such a blanket statement. No point in me trying to understand chaos theory...too much for me! LOL! But you seem to be all over it and hopefully I will live long enough to watch it in action! I'll keep on being myself....and you do the same! (I love how you "stir" the pot!) Good luck to you and yours.

Thanks mate - as for chaos it is in practice right now - every time your pivot tool resets to new daily averages or weekly averages or monthly averages and you watch a level for a bounce or cross - that is chaos enough. Knowing the actual mechanics and the maths of it is just for doing extreme stuff such as the predictions I make sometimes just to disprove the nonsense about fundamentals - Takre

Like it or not, the charts don't lie and long AU trade was good. We've had 2 solid days of buying...even with the USD strenght on EU and GU. If we get above 9200, 9300(9250 could be minor resisance) is a good target. I would say 100pips is good profit for anyone.

I'm not condoning anyone's poor treatment of others on here. This was an AU thread to start with and that's what I'm commenting on. Just a nice little observation that we are currently in a 9140-9200 range...a close on either side should point us in the right direction. Just seems that we've had some decent strength on AUD last couple of days...might continue into tomorrow. Again, price will show the way. Happy Trading!

LG, allow me to repost it..

Still watching for the final move toward the weekly mean which if crossed implies a retest of the monthly mean line. Regardless, progress in direction crucially depends on a close (or failure to do) above 1.28749 over the next 1 hour or so. Of course if in that time price fails to rise and close above 1.2869 then we should be seeing 1.27 sooner rather than later.

That's his post some hours ago when euro was 1.2865 and his call is fulfilled.. sure he made the call before it fall not like some traders here who like to claim "just take profit for 500 pips" without mentioned the entry level beforehand ( I'm not talking about u,baitup.. don't be offended ) It is for those who keep asking LG to prove his skill.. anyway, I am too lazy to find out his comments last month which is " euro is going down to 27 from 33-34 " when euro was 33.. we know LG has lots of post, if you want to prove it, just check it yourself

spreadbutter may think LG is so lucky because fundamental support his take - all of bad news for euro but it doesn't make sense if loadedgun always luck everytime - as 9/10 of his call are right.. so it would be fair to say he trades with skill

This just gets better by the minute as USD rinses the lot.

I so look forward to the following weeks....and further "discussion" wth those of you contemplating movements of 100 pips or less.

Put it in perspective boys - it's a single penny, and anything less than that is "half a penny".

He he he......you think Central Banks care about 1/100 of a dollar?

You're such a gimp you give leather suited up gimps a bad rep. Nobody, NOBODY is 'right' nine times out of ten. And the problem with wannabee vendors is that they disappear into their cave for a week or two when they're a few hundred pips out on a call and get the direction and sentiment spectacularly wrong.

I said 9/10 because I counted the gold call last month as the only wrong call so far.. can you show me the other wrong call? don't just say all his call wrong or something like that, prove it.. anyway, LG offered anyone to beat him some months ago.. why don't you just take it? as you are a pro sucess hedge fund right? - I don't know he is still interested or not but no need to ask him as I know you will not take it because we know who will be the winner..

You consider 1 month a short term trade system (2 weeks in and 2 weeks to go)? As LG has so eloquently said in regards to your Fundamentals is everything view "Well you know that is crap - what in the first place is fundamentals and how do you put it together to decide direction and what if direction does not comply? If you truly are selling something, I can't help but suggest a client-relationship class or maybe even a marketing course.

No one cares what you know when you come across so arrogant. Even if you are the best trader in the world - EVER... no one cares cause your attitude towards fellow traders is no where close to the best.

Have you ever tried teaching others instead of insulting them?

Have a nice day

I just can't believe poorly people behave on these forums! How a little disagreement about USD direction can turn into a personal slanging match. If you're posting so ferociously on here and trying to outdo each other imho its unlikely you're focusing properly on your trading!

I come on here to read, hopefully learn some things and comment about my views and interests. I make good regular pips and $'s from trading but still need all the help I can get, and this is supposed to be about the AUD double bottom attempt, so how about we stick to the script!

So, having vented my spleen, the AUD has been tracking the 20ema on the daily chart, so a bounce up to around 0.9260 looks possible, even with lots of sellers lined up between price now and there. Downside momentum looks to be easing so price may settle here for a while and move into a range.

ANY REAL COMMENTS ON THIS????

"little disagreement about USD direction" Not exactly. He started by calling the US a bunch of liars and proclaiming the US was going under. Being an American it bothered me. I don't trade the AUD.....sorry.

Because people feel empowered behind a computer screen. I use to come here often because there were many good postings, but now it's turned into daft social media.

Aussie can go higher from here til .924, where I see some resistance on the daily. It broke the 38 Fib on the weekly, but has come above it now. I'll wait for a close.
When the facts change I change my mind, what do you do sir

I am beginning to think these clowns are getting paid to keep the comment number up and the click through rate high for their sponsors. It doesn't make any sense to allow all the off topic disruption. I have posted something like this before and it is almost immediately extracted. hmmmm.

Now, i like the AUD long too. It appears to be bottomed and not following the others lower. If it would mount the daily 14 sma and clear it, it should be off to the races. Pretty ugly daily chart

It is. Aussie makes the great long in theory. I have seen speculation that upward movements are due to the overextension but it always leads to another leg down.

I'd just be really selective, make some pips and cut it. I can't remember when Aussie had good data - months. Unemployment out soon. It tracks good closely too. That can be sticky.

If you have ever watched a bunch of teenage boys playing COD, and talking shit to one another, it sounds a lot like some of the banter on the FF site. It is pretty obvious that there are a few who have valid, and worthwhile opinions. Others provide pretty steady stream of garbage. Either way, it keeps the users coming back to the site, and clicking on though...Cheers

Hallelujah !!!

I don't mind a great debate. If someone can articulate their point, whether similar or opposing, then great; however, the arguing of "personal" this and that is ridiculous. How many of us have ever interacted outside FF? Please, don't hurt my computer screen's feelings with your harsh words.

Have a good one albchr

you try and make a civil legitimate trade point and it is off to the races with the garbage comments. I was surprised the management puts up with it but am beginning to think it may be planned this way. I don't contribute much anymore and won't click through this site for much of anything. gonna hit the sack. good night everyone. good luck in all your trades

Well to those sounding annoyed at posters having a go at each other - let me point out that they have not just the right to do so but one picks up a lot that way about how traders truly think and what beliefs they hold that motivate them to position in trades. That in and of itself is a goldmine.

The idea that anyone here will or should oblige others in terms of their individual expectations about how others should conduct themselves on the forum is not only unrealistic but in fact antisocial. This is the age of the internet and norms of terrestrial behavior cannot apply - nor is such needed - with all that hypocrisy and repressed behavior (driving so many to the nut house in real life).

If you can't stand any particular posters put them on ignore and stop all the crap about what others should or should not be saying (baring advocacy for terrorism or other criminal instigations as well as bigotry and racism).

Otherwise it is a two way channel and you read and respond to one post at a time in an interface that presumes only the person to whom you are responding to is in conversation with you. The idea that one should therefore be conscious of others or that he or she is in a "public" forum and should therefore be mindful of what others might think is not just stupid but is actually an infringement on the right to freedom of expression. What others? For instance unless I get a response to this post - what do I care about any of 3 or more billion potential responses and how am I supposed to worry what they might think or feel?

But once someone responds we will define our terms of exchange including putting one another on ignore if that is how we feel or what the conversation leads to. So please let the forum flow - all expressions (baring those mentioned) are valid.

BE YOURSELF AND LET OTHERS BE.

I think it is safe to say we enjoy banter. You may like eurodollar, and I don't; yet, that shouldn't allow me to attack you, sling poo, and so forth. Could I? Sure, I can. In the end, what's the point? Why can't we disagree sensibly? Here's my analysis, and here is yours. I think 6 of every 10 posts on this site is complete rubbish. This site is suppose to cater to a specific financial niche, and the nonsense makes it less and less appealing.

In simple regards, this forum - or site in general - is about FX and the related. Everything else need not apply or the site completely loses validity and purpose.

That's my 5 cents.

LG, well argued and I agree with many points. Yes I was one of the annoyees and vented against the poor level of dialogue. I'm probably one of the older traders on here so am used to a more conventional form of "polite" interaction than full on, in your face aggression. It got particularly bad for a while there and I thought the moderators might have stepped in.

My point was that the thread had gotten completely lost in the flying barbs, when I'm trying to follow it (being from Oz I trade AUD actively) so it was an area of interest. Hence a level of disappointment that more robust comments on the AUD position weren't forthcoming.

My only final comment is that I don't agree with the freedom of expression sentiment - I truly doubt the traders on here would speak like this to each other sitting across a trading floor or cafe - so why is it necessary here? Moreover why does everyone seem to need the last word? Imho it smacks of immaturity more than honesty.

Cheers and keep up the good posts.

First I did not have you or anyone in mind in making my points and the points are reasoned based on experience. You are one of the traders on site I very much respect and read your posts actively. I am not young here or in life and had to grapple with this initially as well. But I would still argue that in your final comment you are mistaken. Just understand that it has to do with the interface and who we really are sometimes given a particular environment - which is my point. Would you rather a lie (the sort we get in the terrestrial everyday). The fact is that this interface (much like facebook but unlike facebook where folks have simply migrated their hypocritical natures) allows people to vent when they feel like and it is part of the character of the interface so for me I think it is in fact a matter of understanding that functionality and accepting it. I tried initially to be different but once I understood that I had it all wrong I changed. I hope someday you see it that way and you will find you enjoy yourself more without losing anything.

BTW: It is a fallacy that it is the behavior annoying to you that reduces the quality of conversation. Given the set of visitors at any one time - there is only so much wisdom available and once that is exhausted other things come into play (and validly too). Therefore, if we are all polite etc you will find visitations reduce (and with that available wisdom on average) etc. So you see you cannot eat your cake and have it. This is the age of the internet and this is how people choose to use it. It is very good this way.

Deeno, I'm sure you know that there are cases where commodity traders on WS floors have at times physically engaged each other. There's nothing wrong with it . You get a bunch of guys in any room , you'll get rivalry in some form. I'm my own boss here and I'll act that way too , Deeno.
