How algorithms rule the world

Algorithms were used before writing evolved. That we have adapted them to use by machines that can do harm as well as good should not surprise. Man was killing man before writing evolved as well.
This is well written.
There only truly consistent logical systems are tautologies. Trying to be logical about everything, or anything, all of the time, is a mistake. That is where the Borg will fail.
But we will always be trying , and usually succeeding. to make predictions about things which truly concern us.

I tried to post a story on Forex Factory about a week ago that revealed hard data on what most retail currency traders had long suspected---The big banks and hedge funds pay the outfits like the U. of Michigan or whoever to send their data on major financial news to them in advance of the 'official' release time, sometimes by as much as a few minutes, but always in advance by seconds.

This allows the big computer algorithms to kick in ahead of the 'official' release time, giving those big banks and hedge funds that pay for the advance information another advantage over the rest of us.

So those sudden spikes of pips at 7:59 of an anticipated 8:00 release aren't a figment of your imagination or a lucky guess by smart traders. They have inside information early and are able to plug it in to their super computers and auto trade the move.

I can't imagine why Forex Factory thought this was 'stale' news because I ran across the story a couple of days after it broke on a couple of news outlets. I never saw it on this outlet and the information is timeless, not something that will not occur again and again and affect every single trader on Forex Factory. Perhaps they thought retail traders might quit the game, knowing it was rigged and that would affect the bottom line for the site.

If there was a like button on here I would hit it on your post. Like all technology it is not the technology itself but the people using it that is the problem. Freedom is becoming largely an illusion based on your number not coming up yet.

So what? You'll never beat the machines as a retailer playing on a toy platform, if you're trading too much off low TFs you'll eventually get crucified. The majority of retailers would do far far better by trading less and off the daily TFs.

I now truly understand the underlying reason that ALL forms of ANALOGUE communication has been mocked, ridiculed and removed from every walk of life. To do what has been printed in this story would be fraught with many, many difficulties for those listening in, IF our conversations/communications had remained analogue.

Under the guise of protection from criminals and terrorists we could very likely find that we, the public will need far greater protection from enforcement bodies and politicians approving these actions. Many suspect that politicians are rarely the most honorable and upright of individuals, so even more reason for the public to fear the heavy hand of the law, particularly the innocent.
