  • Payrolls in U.S. Rise 165,000 as Unemployment Drops to 7.5%

    From bloomberg.com

Employment picked up more than forecast in April and the jobless rate unexpectedly declined to a four-year low of 7.5 percent, showing the early stages of government budget cuts failed to destabilize the U.S. labor market. Payrolls expanded by 165,000 workers last month following a revised 138,000 increase in March that was larger than first estimated, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The median forecast of 90 economists surveyed by Bloomberg projected a 140,000 gain. Revisions to the prior two months’ reports added a total of 114,000 jobs to the employment count in February and March. Hiring ... (full story)

Bogus, Figures lie and liars figure. How about the millions of unemployed that stopped looking for work? Shouldn't they be included in the calculations as well?

Remember that the fed has a specific unemployment target. Once hit, then REDUCTION in QE...best of luck everyone. Cheers!

I haven't crunched the exact numbers but I recall a paper stating that roughly 3.2 million new jobs need creating from December 2012 to reach 6.5% unemployment. Ergo, at this jobs rate, we're looking at another two years+ of QE or circa $2 trillion <gulp>

can't see that the employment figures justified the rocket on s&p and dow. some other reason caused it like fund managers sitting with too much cash. anyway was long dow futures from couple hours before nfp. 161.8 fib extension on h1 got hit at 14893. let's see what the jobs analysts have got to say.

Despite tax revenues already being at record highs the irresponsable deficit spending will continue so the QE will also have to continue. If it were to stop interest rates would soar and the economy would really crash. Only 4 years - 100 days more of Obama. roll eyes

Until the labor participation rate icreases and the government assistance rolls decrease there is no real recovery. Advertising for food stamps and such is bazarre to any logical person.

Because everyone realizes even with all the massive money printing, unemployment only down 0.1%? It's a joke.

Imagine when QE stops. Carnage will ensue.

And if QE doesn't stop, consider what non-stop money printing will do to the dollar.

I thought the risk-on, risk-off scenario with the dollar had finally broken down awhile back. But today looks like that is not the case. Meaning, what should be good news for the dollar against other currencies is the opposite. Euro should have broken yesterdays low by more than a few pips, but lets see what plays out

What do baby-boomers have to do with the unemployment report? The baby-boomer generation is primarily responsible for many of the entrepreneurial developments that have increased employment over the years; i.e., Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Husk, etc.

Hi guys
I am living in France and in England. The situation here about employment, about the rises of the prices of everything essential, the closures of factories really make me non understandig at all why the dollar is going up. We, europeans need a weaker dollar to give a chance to their exports and what ever good news come from America ,it pushes the dollar up.We definitly know that your printing of money like crazy has an effect on the confidence in the dollar but the euro can explode any day. The unemployment here is mad. My daughter like most of her friends has a degree but just can t find a job.
We, the small people playing on the markets, should be aware that this game is led by people who are definitly ready just to take the counterpart of a normal thinking just to sweep off money of small players like most of us. Have a nice day my friends abroad and stop thinking, just follow the big players to grab something from them.
