  • Americans Will Throw Out $282 Million Worth Of Uneaten Turkey This Thanksgiving

    CBS News Sunday Morning pointed us to a shocking statistic: $280,000,000 worth of uneaten turkey will be thrown out this Thanksgiving. According to the National Resources Defense Council, that number is more like $282,000,000. Nationwide, consumers will purchase around 736 million pounds of turkey this Thanksgiving, of which about 581 million pounds will be actual meat," writes the NRDC's Dana Gunder. "The USDA reports that 35% of perfectly good turkey meat in the U.S. does not get eaten after it is purchased by consumers (and that’s not including bones)." Unbelievable. Read more at NRDC.org. Thrown away or wasted foods are sign of ungraceful, unthankful, disgrace, bad luck. Don't do that. Be conservative, billion of people around the world and right here at home are straving to death, if you have plenty than you should be very thankful to the grace God given to you. Don't be wasted. Donation, charity is good for your spirit any way at Thanksgiving season. I will never thrown away foods. Make soup, make jerkey, make brooth...
Trader, I used to feel the same way but sometimes yuh live where taking it to a homless shelter or donating it somewhere would cost more in gas and time than it is worth. This to me is a sign we Americans have had enough of ALL turkey thanksgiving dinners. Its a commercial profitmaker. Most people dont even enjoy home made turkey. Too dry. I wish when my family was alive we just took a vote on it. Wanna know the truth...in Brooklyn, 80% of the people there would vote to have chinese food or Italian. No kidding!
I guess they could keep the turkey for a week or so and then throw it out. Spoiled turkey is much less valuable that fresh turkey and so the waste would not be as great.
I sometimes do the turkey like the chinese do their "Perking duck". I buy the chinese seasoning for their duck and go home create some more flavor that I like and I marinate the turkey. I cut them up, if it is too big. I marinate and let stay in refrigerator for overnight, then next morning, I bar-b-que or I roasted them. It come out moistures and taste even better than chinese perking duck.

Trader, Im short the Euro and the GBP for now, but long term, Id love to invest in your idea about making turkey taste like duck. With all the people who cant stand one more turkey dinner, you have a multi-million dollar idea. You could either franchise it and sell it year round, or just do it seasonally and sell it thru supermarkets or any way you can. Its a moneymaker for sure. Remember...Colonel Sanders went from restaurant to restaurant for 2-3 years before someone fell in love with his chicken and Kentucky Fried Chicken was born.
Buy Kangaroo meat, its cheaper, healthier, and it cuts down on wild vermin in Australia, leaving plenty of fresh grass for your dumb turkeys to graze on.

people starve to death in Africa people throw the foods in america what a combination !!! If you are not happy with the food you re getting just give it to some poor people atleast it will bring you some blessings!!!

People who can afford to throw out turkeys are either rich and don't need blessings, or they are just being honest and admitting that turkey really does taste like old cardboard.

What else can you do with kangaroos besides eating them?
You can shoot them, keep them as a lawn mower (don't tell the tree huggers tho, they'll report you for abusing native pests), you can try and avoid them at 65 mph on the road on a dark night...

a baby roo is about 1 oz at birth, so you can basicly stop its growth at a point where you personally feel that its worth roasting the thing.

So... a day old 1oz orderves on a small biscuit... up to a BBQ feast on a spit for 100 people.

roos cost about $15 a lb in the US so it is far from cheaper but I defenitely want to try some.
