Bank of America cancels $5 debit card fee plan
Bank of America has backpedaled on a $5 per month debit card usage fee after heavy public outcry. The Charlotte-based bank says a changing competitive marketplace and listening to its customers are the reasons why. Bank of America customer Johnnie Peterson says had the bank moved forward with the debit card usage fee, he would have found a new bank. "We certainly would have walked away from our 15-year relationship with the bank,” Peterson said. Bank of America isn't saying whether the announced fees led to account closures.
