It's silly to talk about "the average American" in the context of financial markets. Because they don't matter. The US could go into a recession (probably will) and the stock markets would still rally. The markets are dominated by a few large companies that mostly trade with each other. They are riding the AI/cloud computing wave. Nobody on Main Street is buying NVDA's Blackwell chips. Unemployment can continue to rise and stocks will go up. Ever notice how, when somebody like META lays off 25,000 workers, META stock goes up? OK, basic idea about efficiency, META makes the same or more profits with less expense for labor. The "average American" family does not own stocks, does not trade forex or crypto, and does no matter in the markets. When AI has displaced a few million jobs a year, and people start bombing the AI robots that took their jobs, then check back.

Besides oil, India is very self-reliant. Their goods exports to the US, excluding services, are modest. But oil is a very important component for Indian consumers. So it seems to be an easy decision for India to eat up the tariffs. Eventually, American companies will have to transfer the cost to consumers, so it makes sense for other countries not to react in the short term.

Even if India and U.S. eventually reach a tariff deal, the trust is most likely gone:

Evan Feigenbaum from Carnegie Endowment for International Peace says what President Trump has done to India in terms of tariff threats and blaming it for assisting Russia in its war with Ukraine by purchasing its oil are seen hypocritical in India and risks hurting the bilateral relations in a profound way.

EU & China can/do buy oil from Russia but India not?

I'm always something of a fan of pro-rata (?) statistics. Break them down to relative levels rather than absolute.

What % of individual wealth do each quartile have invested in equites, kinda thing.

I also have reason to believe that large portfiolios would be hedged appropriately. Not so for relatively small holdings.

I said the majority, not all. I’ve been here my whole life, worked many places, talked to countless people. Never in my life have I ever seen Americans fretting over how the world views them.

Just to point out, you have never once said you were long stocks since April, but you mentioned a few times you were short. I’m doing the same as I said a month ago. Buy dips with a stop, 100% success rate so far. There has not been a pullback followed by another big leg down to cause a stop out. Trading is a lot easier when you trade in the direction of the trend. Who knows, maybe someday we will get a sell off. But calling one everyday for many months seems pointless.

All his tariff's on India is exempted for Pharma, Semiconductor & Electronics. So it will not impact India much but it spoils the relation between two countries. Russian oil helps Indian economy. Instead of dealing with this egomaniac its better to be friend with Russia and find some other partners to do trade deal. In future BRICS will float own reserve currency. Then you cant sanction anyone.
