  • ‘Mr. Yen’ Says Japan’s Currency May Weaken to 160 and Beyond

    The yen may fall through the more-than three-decade low it reached last year amid Japan’s widening monetary policy divergence with the US, according to Eisuke Sakakibara. Known as “Mr. Yen” for his ability to influence the currency when he was Japan’s vice finance minister from 1997-1999, Sakakibara said the yen may weaken more than 10% from current levels as the Bank of Japan clings to ultra-easy policy while the Federal Reserve raises interest rates to tame inflation. If UJ hits 150 again no doubt the intervention will come hard and fast. Yen Short squeeze. Waiting patiently.

160 ha? Last time I saw news like this, intervention came and USD/JPY dropped to 127 from 152.

Short is incoming soon.
Even if NFP comes out hot as hell, Japan will intervene. Japan is probably waiting for NFP before acting, because perhaps NFP will be bad and USD will fall so no intervention will be necessary, for now.
