(1) Yield curve control (a unanimous vote) a) The Bank decided to set the following guideline for market operations for the intermeeting period.   • Japan’s new central bank governor sticks to negative interest rates in his first meeting

    The Bank of Japan left its interest rates unchanged in newly appointed Governor Kazuo Ueda’s first policy meeting. The decision was in line with economist expectations for no changes to the benchmark interest rate, which has been held at -0.1% since the central bank took rates below zero in 2016. The central bank also kept the tolerance range for 10-year Japanese government bonds unchanged at 50 basis points above and below its target of 0%. Here we go, next stop 140.
Maybe they alredy feel comfortable with minus rate, so next step could be intervene with currency market , or statement about japan economy bright future alredy on the track. just wait and see.
The fundamental thing you guys should put in perspective is that BOJ is quite happy these days. They couldn’t dream of this level of inflation. After the crazy deflation they experienced in the 1990s they had to ease like crazy and never were successful to keep the “average inflation” around 2%. Now they see this as their chance. They’re gonna ease for now, at least for the rest of 2023. Just watch out for the levels that make them uncomfortable and make them to intervene just to bring down the UJ rate (not inflation rate). Last one was 150.
