On past form, the West has never gone far enough to stop Russia apart from sending weapons. This has not stopped Russia bombing the shit out of Ukraine. Don't be surprised if the retreat from Kherson is simply a re-grouping of forces by Russia who will then continue their favourite military tactic - bombing everything flat.Unfortunately they (Russia) have the weapons, access to more manpower and a leader dreaming of a bigger Russia.

The best reasoning Ive heard for Europes total strategic diversification from all globally traded energy.. oil, gas, and into renewables and nuclear. This aggression by Russia into Ukraine and now impacting Poland and NATO in a real war situation has accelerated the full resources of the world s largest trading block to dump all its dependency of external energy sources. Dont underestimate Europe. Whatever the US does.

Now Russia has to use this as an opportunity to end the war and save its face. NATO has to give an ultimatum to Russia which is - either withdraw all troops from Ukraine and end the war or face NAO activating article 5 and get wiped out.
Russia has the chance now to apologize and say that they did not intend to escalate the conflict this way. That was a mistake and we don’t want conflict with NATO. That’s why we withdraw our forces and end the war. This will be the perfect way for Russia to save face.
