  • Global Finance Leaders Single Out China as Barrier to Faster Debt Relief

    From money.usnews.com

Western countries this week ratcheted up their criticism of China, the world's largest bilateral creditor, as the main obstacle to moving ahead with debt restructuring agreements for the growing number of countries unable to service their debts. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Friday that high inflation, tightening monetary policies, currency pressures and capital outflows were increasing debt burdens in many developing countries, and more progress was urgently needed. She said she discussed those issues during a dinner with African finance ministers and in many other sessions. The Group of Seven rich ... (full story)

They keep beating that same drum...
"Calvino said, adding that many heavily indebted countries were also being hit hard by inflation and climate shocks."
Climate shocks? So Zambia, Chad and Ethiopia are struggling to pay their debts due to "climate shocks"?
So when a guy driving a 1990 Ford Taurus can't pay back his debt his answer of why? Climate shock
Everything easy was hard at first

IMHO you dont appear to be expressing an informed opinion in this post?

Zambia? already seeing increase in frequency and severity of seasonal droughts, dry spells, increased temperatures in valleys, flash floods and changes in the growing season. increases in temperature and more extreme weather (intense precipitation, floods and droughts) and increased rainfall variability. Consistent woth global modeling of climate change consequences.
Chad? .. suffering a combination of high poverty, frequent conflicts, and and increasing risk of droughts and floods means its disproportionately vulnerable to current global CC trends. already apparent.
Ethiopia? ..mortality and morbidity due to increased incidence of floods and heat waves, vector-borne diseases, water-borne diseases, meningitis, and air pollution-related respiratory diseases are evident in Ethiopia. Sensitive systems such as agriculture, health, and water all affected,
Fun analogy but you are a bit out of touch with reality.. 90% of folk in these countries cant afford a f*ucking bicycle never mind a 1990 Ford Taurus.

You could take your post and date stamp it with 3 different times...current date, 20 years ago and then 40 years ago. This is nothing new. Third world countries have major ongoing issues and that's why you don't loan them money.
Instead of a loan, you build the infrastructure, commerce, security. Just imagine what would happen to Mexico and Central America if it were done right. And I'm not talking about a puppet regime either.
