I really do feel sorry for the Ukranian people. I also feel sorry for the average Russian people who will suffer beyond anything they have experienced before. But lets not get carried away. Let be honest. Ukraine was nowhere near the democratic dream before the war and nowhere near EU membership.

EU doesnt need more of that. Yes we can trade with Ukraine on favorable terms but lets be realistic.
I agree with @Mingary. Putin needs a some credible "Victory" to point to before May 9th. for internal stability.
And so far its been a military shambles.
Ukraine is part of European block.
So does UK, Switzerland and even Turkey and Russia.


But Ukraine cannot join EU.
The Netherlands is against Ukraine's membership of the EU.
How do you want to convince the Dutch to Ukrainian accession to the EU?

So don‘t create false hopes here!
EU have good fruitful relations with countries outside EU, as well.

Yet Switzerland/UK isn't part of the EU and good on them..they are way better of now.

I'm not sure Pat you understand what the EU is. Do you know which chapters a candidate country needs to open and close in order to meet the conditions for EU accession. What these chapters mean, what is in them and how this process develops.
Ukraine has a huge misfortune that its neighboring country is Russia and its crazy regime.
Serbia will also join the EU, which is considered a traditional Russian ally in Eastern Europe.
Of course, the EU will help Ukraine in the pre-accession process, in the first place it will have access to funds from European pre-accession funds. The EU "gave" nothing to Russia. The EU pays Russia for the energy it imports from Russia. Where do you think Russia will sell them when the EU stops importing ... and nobody wants to deal with a Russia like this. You exaggerate the importance of Russia in energy and in any sense for Europe. Russia is a devastated country, mostly with the help of its crazy regimes in the last 200 years.
The war is not going as Putin planned. Let's hope that we will communicate here in two or three years, you will see where Russia will be then. This is nothing new, it is their constant practice ...

Have you ever been to these "sick" countries? Some of them have such a quality of life that Russia will not have in 100 years. I had the opportunity to spend some years in Warsaw ... I have never understood who give rights to someone to pick some idiots for precidents of EU. Like a Rumpuy.

Other questions is, is it putin right to selecet where are they safety buffer. Could they build it inside they own border, and not forcefully try to took independent countries. Ex warsaw pact countries dont want be part of that.
Nordic countries dont want be russia safety buffer.

Nato countries Norway,Estonia,Poland,Latvia,Lithunia has border with Russia. (Kaliningrad)

Its some kind of insane idea like Scotland would tell England, we leave U.K and England tells safety buffer start from Edinburgh.

Should that not be for the Ukrainian people to decide? They are an independent, democratic nation. It's not up to you, me , or the Russian Butchers to decide what is best for Ukraine. Likewise the nonsense spouted here by Putin supporters who are outraged by the Great Satan allowing the ex Soviet nations to join Nato. As democracies it is their sovereign choice to join Nato. Following the invasion of non Nato Ukraine their decision is fully vindicated. The Free peoples of Europe are telling the Russian bear to go fuck himself. And all his supporters can do likewise.
