  • Consumer Price Index - November 2021

    From bls.gov

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.8 percent in November on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.9 percent in October, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 6.8 percent before seasonal adjustment. The monthly all items seasonally adjusted increase was the result of broad increases in most component indexes, similar to last month. The indexes for gasoline, shelter, food, used cars and trucks, and new vehicles were among the larger contributors. The energy index rose 3.5 percent in November as the gasoline index ... • Inflation surged 6.8%, even more than expected, in November to fastest rate since 1982

    From cnbc.com

Inflation accelerated at its fastest pace since 1982 in November, the Labor Department said Friday, putting pressure on the economic recovery and raising the stakes for the Federal Reserve. The consumer price index, which measures the cost of a wide-ranging basket of goods, rose 0.8% for the month, good for a 6.8% pace on a year over year basis and the fastest rate since June 1982. Excluding food and energy prices, so-called core CPI was up 0.5% for the month and 4.9% from a year ago, which itself was the sharpest pickup since mid-1991. The Dow Jones estimate was for a 6.7% annual gain for headline CPI and 4.9% for ... (full story)

It was supposed to be good news for USD. But why did GBP/USD started to buy too much after the release of the news?

Because expected High CPI was already factored in. The CPI did not exceed the expectations.

I have the same question. But I can guess this is a play from big players to kick some SL.

Best way to trade Euro is buy with a SL 50 pips and TP 300 pips.

Too much was factored in already and Eurusd was trading in zone since few days.

This scenario is very common and if you stay in forex for quite some time, you will note that frequently prices just do the opposite to what the news data said. But you cannot make use of that and always go against news data either. Because sometimes price actually conform to what the news data says. Of course people will come up with various explanations as to why market responded in contrast with the news. Most of the times those explanations are just loads of crap. I am not telling that you should disregard fundamental analysis, on the contrary you should be well aware of the fundamentals but be careful when entering a trade just based on single pieces of data.

As for today I think USD will go higher later. However I didn't enter any USD crosses. Had a better pair to trade based on both this data and technicals.

EU really hasn't gone anywhere for 3 weeks now, not since the MMs dropped it into the area of previous ranging. This is, from the ranging shown on the chart, an order filling area for Smart Money (SM). Where price goes from here will be determined by whether SM is accumulating (buying) or further distributing (selling), while the MMs range price in this area to create liquidity to fill SM orders. If SM is buying, the inevitable move will be upwards to where SM will place orders to close their long positions. If SM is selling, the inevitable move will be downwards to where SM will place orders to close their short positions.

We cannot ever know how the MMs will move price next. What we can suspect, however, is that SM buys low, sells high. So, is this range area of order filling the final low for the year, with SM buying to close previous short positions? Is this range area of order filling where SM is adding to short positions ahead of the next....and maybe final.....move lower, where they are setting companion orders to close for the year?

We cannot know. But we will likely soon see.......
