  • Clubs to earn almost triple the money from European Super League than Champions League

    Football has been rocked by the announcement of a European Super League, whose ambitions appear to be more for financial gain than anything else. Each participating club in the European Super League will receive 3.5 billion euros to start with, with American bank JP Morgan heading up the financial backing of the project. The club that wins the European Super League could be due close to 400 million euros, compared to the 120 million euros that is given out to the Champions League winners each year. The elites think we are stupid. They are in the main quite correct.
Where do they think the money will come from? Ultimately the punters - I think many people will be reluctant (and quite a few unable) to fork out for basically a closed shop league. If the ESL was open and allowed all clubs to be promoted or relegated then it would be a different proposition. I wonder how many players will remain with the initial 15 if the threat of not representing their country is enforced.
