  • US retail sales explode in March as consumers use stimulus checks to spend heavily

    From cnbc.com

A fresh batch of stimulus checks sent consumer purchases surging in March as the U.S. economy continued to get juice from aggressive congressional spending. Retail sales rose 9.8% for the month, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. That compared to the Dow Jones estimate of a 6.1% gain. A separate report showed that first-time filings for unemployment insurance plunged, with the Labor Department reporting 576,000 new jobless claims for the week ended April 10. Consumers, though, took their $1,400 stimulus checks and spent aggressively. The money came courtesy of the nearly $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act ... (full story)

Lets face it. It will never be paid back. Not by US, not by EU members, not by any country. Who cares. All the old ones like me are stuck with knowledge gained from outdated books. We still try to get it all to make sense and while we are doing that all the newcomers having read the newest books bought it all. Nothing but bread crumps left for us.

What Fed should do must be weighed against what they will do.
Fed is about Banks making Loans.
They are also very deeply involved in the new cultural revolution which is supposed to propel the World into a nirvana of equality.
Calling Bull Shit on the Fed does not make a Trader money. It is a hard thing to do letting go of a persons belief system, but this GAME is about making Fiat not about right or wrong.
Make the Fiat then buy something that is real wealth while it is still available.

Can someone educate me on who these all powerful market makers are?

"Market maker" is a super wide term as I understand it. Are you talking about FX sell side? FX book makers? Designated market makers on exchanges? Liquidity providing prop firms that are partaking in exchange incentive schemes? Any professional outfit that trades size? Any professional outfit that exclusively seeks retail order flow?

Or is it just a bit of fun? I've always wondered.

Have you have ever had a dream that you are falling?

If you hit the bottom all will be revealed and you may become a market maker.

But XAU/USD is in the opposite direction despite of the CPI and Retail Sales positive results. Its extremely discouraging. Over leverage is extremely fatal and dangerous. The market can be manipulated anytime. EUR/USD is following the result of the sales report but Gold is trying to push harder. Got to leave my positions open. it's all nearly dying. When the gold continue to press higher and burn my entire account then I will leave forex for a while and need to sit down and grind harder before getting into another trade. I need to discipline my projection bias and my money management is really really poor.

Market starting to realize ECB is not going to get outdone by Fed on the road to perdition, would be a reasonable way to look at the situation.
\Euro area still highly reliant upon export and a strong Euro last thing ECB wants.

Place your bets on who ECB trots out, de Guindos would be my call, saving Lagarde for later.

One explanation can be deduced if you ask yourself the following question: Which economy(ies) is(are) growing faster, with faster vaccination rates, reduced lockdowns and scope for 'normal' economy operation? EU or USA/UK/Others? (Remember that faster growth induces inflationary pressures and capital flow to the prospect of better earnings and induces pressures on increased lending rates) (Remember also that the market moves on the gossip and speculation, not the news, because the most money can be made by investing early before the trend has established and is recognised by the masses).
