  • Johnson Is Claiming Brexit Victory Over EU as the Spin Begins

    From bnnbloomberg.ca

The Brexit deal may not be signed yet, but Boris Johnson’s government has already started trying to sell it at home, claiming victory over the European Union. An internal British analysis, first reported by the Guido Fawkes website and confirmed by a U.K. official, claims 28 “wins” for the U.K., 11 for the EU, and 26 areas where the two sides compromised. But in several cases, what the U.K. describes as a “win” doesn’t accurately compare both sides’ opening positions. For Johnson, a deal is both a political victory and a problem. Even though he won a large majority at last year’s election under the ... (full story)

For Information:
"If there is an agreement, it will ultimately be a narrow free trade deal surrounded by other pacts on fisheries, transport, energy and cooperation in justice and policing.
It will not cover the financial services that make London the only financial capital to rival New York. Services make up 80% of the British economy. JPMorgan said the EU had secured a deal which allows it retain nearly all of its advantages from trade with the UK but with the ability to use regulations to “cherry pick” among sectors where the UK had advantages - such as services."
source: Reuters.

Victory? Hardly.. but as good as it gets..
As Ive tried to say throughout against loud and abusive opposition..
.. the UK never did have the Cards.

Nobody knows what is in the final deal yet. If you only analyse what relates to the bilateral negotiation with the EU then you miss the bigger picture of being able to negotiate tailored trade deals with countries from around the world/more flexibility in joint commercial ventures.

Now try re-thinking your opinion from an EU perspective. A trade deal is not about winners and losers, which is how you want to present it. It is about both sides winning with compromises and concessions to make the deal happen.

I said this a 10 days ago:

"There will be no deal.

Just like with Trump v China..... there will be no deal, unless a spin doctor can think of a way to make it look like an agreement has been made, when there hasn't been (akin to Trumps phase 1 trade deal).

Amazing markets don't get that."

Western politics is screwed. No leaders, just narcissists. Sad times.

Think both sides should be happy there is a deal. Without which animosity would have built up, which would have spread to other things like NATO. The organ grinder Mrs Merkel saw this, decided a deal was to be done. The EU can now get on with full integration without the pesky uk veto. Personally happy to be out of it but respect others may like that prospect
