It's ridiculous to think that the UK regains independence as a Sovereign state but is expected to allow European boats into it's waters to catch a bigger proportion of fish than the Brits. I'm sure you'll have something to say on the matter Barkie !

Please, don't give up on fishing, this is our way out of this deal.
We don't want a deal with a small bankrupt island that is about to fragment in even smaller chunks of irrelevance.

We want a trade deal with Asia !

Defeatist? Realist. If you have ANY track record in business, trading or investment youll know that the first baggage to lose is ideological partisanship. Pragmatic economic rationality is what UK needs to achieve a cost effective outcome to this crisis. Everyone knows UK doesnt have the cards in this game. In trading we call it a Stop-Loss. or.. more colloquially.."when in a hole..stop digging"

That "small bankrupt island" is EU's third largest trading partner, and second largest in terms of trade surplus.

Lets take the example of NZ farmers, when the UK joined the EU common market in the 1970's their export market dropped off overnight, leaving them to die/adapt/forge new relationships. Yes there was a period of pain but their industry did not collapse as they had a product which was in demand worldwide. What the French are worried about is having to compete in an open market without the protectionist elements of CAP.

Why don't they just cut the cord and impose 2.5% duty as per WTO? These negotiations are toxic. They could come back later and start fresh.

Mays "suits the eu" deal was oven ready, but when you get a second massive yes vote in an election, you can change the receipe to make the deal fair. Its taken till the cliff edge for the eu to realise they will have to swollow a different deal

the oven ready deal he referred is the withdrawal agreement, it couldn't have been the trade deal since that hadn't started any negotiations on EU bullying .
