    U.K. and European Union officials are zeroing in on a solution to break the eight-month long deadlock over one of the biggest obstacles to their planned trade deal. In a sign that an agreement could be struck by the mid-November deadline set by both sides, a compromise is emerging on the issue of what access EU boats will have to U.K. fishing waters, according to two people with knowledge of the EU side of the discussions. If ever there was a story about the tail wagging the dog its this impasse about fishing.
With 0.12% contribution to UK GDP and a 0.1% of UK employment. And yet we are to believe that a sizable proportion of the other 99.9% of GDP and employment are to be thrown under a bus because of intransigence on this?
Someone explain please.

Well it was always about the fish, and while this is historically symbolic for the UK, i.e. having sovereign right to control ones own territorial waters is actively sought and fiercely protected by all the major power blocs on the planet so why should the UK be treated any differently.
We have the same problem down here at the bottom of the world,many many countries send fishing boats and whalers down here to take every thing they can, without respect for convention, or species survival.

Human greed is the virus predating on the depleted fish stocks the world over.
no surprises there!

yes , you are totally right , however its the symbol that the fishing rights represents to the Brits, and btw the EU would be very unlikely to honestly disclose how much fish they are really taking? would they?
So in the same vein would the French allow UK to buy up land in the Champagne region and start growing and exporting 'Champagne de Pommes' ? or any other domiciled resource , if the fish are in the North and English seas then that is the UK's territorial right, i quite frankly see the bullying that has been inflicted on the Brits for decades by a certain larger trading bloc and they have quite rightly had enough of it.

As I pointed out 2 weeks ago Cummins has played well vs May, not thats that would be hard to do

When you refer to bullying in regard to fishing rights.. you clearly dont remember the intimidation of Iceland during the infamous Cod Wars? Large parts of the UK quotas are owned by EU companies. Incidentally I was unaware that there was any problem with buying a vinyard in Champagne or that the "EU" were complicit in some kind of conspiracy to understate catches.

And then why did the EU not lay claim to North Sea oil?
now that's worth explaining ,
but the answer is quite obvious.
But back to the fish, if it only represents 0.12% of GDP then why such a huge fuss ?
something really does not add up here ? it obviously represents way more than 0.12% to the EU ? .....?
