Canada’s dollar rose for a fourth day, the longest stretch of gains since July, as traders re-evaluated bets the nation’s economy would trail the U.S.’s in light of recent data that’s shown stronger-than-forecast growth. Canada’s dollar strengthened past its 100-day moving average after data last week showed the economy created triple the jobs analysts forecast in August while U.S. payroll growth was less than projected.

USD/CAD has been a bumpy drift along to lower lows within the 1.0400/1.0320 range.
Research teams at TD Securities noted that the USD/CAD is retesting yesterday’s lows. “The soft undertone evident over the past week persists. Oil prices have improved a little in the overnight session after yesterday’s sell off but remain close to 5% off of the recent peaks. Commodity prices fell broadly yesterday and that may slow the CAD rise.

Technical outlook for USD/CAD

At 1.0482, the USD/CAD appears to be headed lower in an “abc” correction with 1.0442 as its downside target. Any break below that level will mean to technicians that the move lower is more than just a correction. Resistance for the cross, meanwhile, comes in north of 1.0600.
