2013 Lightning Stakes - Black Caviar in record time
Superstar Black Caviar lowered a 25-year-old track record's her 23rd straight win in Saturday's Group I Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington Black Caviar's career was in jeopardy when she narrow win over Moonlight Cloud in the Group I Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6f) at Royal Ascot in June 2012
The Victoria Racing Club named the Lightning Stakes in Black Caviar's honour before the daughter of Bel Esprit held up with a terrific performance, covering the 1000 M in 55.42 sec, which shaved .08 of a sec off the mark Special set in the 1988 edition of the event
The champion clocked 31.43 sec for her last 600 M to leave her rivals behind from the 400 M before proceeding her third's win Lightning Stakes comfortably.
