Perhaps US citizens can use Darwinex (and therefore create a 3-Ticker DARWIN linked to such an account) if they opt for a "Classic IBKR Account."? Interactive Brokers does accept US citizens.

one thing to consider..... if you use your existing darwin discount code when opening a new darwin, your existing darwin gets a free month and the new darwin gets 25% off...... this effectively means your new darwin is free......

as mentioned before, you can come out of calibration a few days before the first of the month and receive a 30k allotment before your account is even 30 days old...... assuming you make money on the 30k, darwin might be paying you from day 1......

just noticed you can get a sneak peek of your risk multiplier before it is public......

at some point during calibration you can see your live trades panel...... doing the math your multiplier, or divisor, can be calculated......

as pip has said before, we really need a multiplier above 2......h

i was studin on our new found friend's, pwdi, results today......

this will only focus on the opening and closing strategies marked in the red, blue or yellow boxes......

his opening strategy ranks 4.0 and closing ranks 4.4...... his values should be better than most...... his is the blue box.....

now if we compare his to a couple of the high profile in the know darwins we can see just how much better his are....... theirs are the red boxes.....

their opening strategies are 0.8 and 0.6...... with closings at 4.9 and 2.8........

also compared below is tha's...... his is yellow box...... his opening is 7.2 and closing 1.6......

my closing strategy will be almost always above 9 in all of my accounts...... however my opening strategy will be between 3.4 and 4.0...... mine are almost all below pwdi's......

so it's my opening strategy that needs work......

that will be my focus over the next 15 days......

should know the results for my effort on april 12th or there abouts......

my goal is a opening at 7 or above......h

Doesn't your opening strategy affect your closing strategy?
How can you improve your opening strategy independent of your closing strategy?

Why are you giving such high priority to these two investable attributes?

If you try to pick bottoms (and tops) you will get smelly fingers :-)

it has nothing to do with tops or bottoms....... they have to do with maximum +/- price excursion during the trades life.....

improving your opening strategy reduces the drawdown......

improving your closing strategy reduces your profit give back.....

an example would be, countertrend trades should have a poorer opening ranking......h

to improve the opening, you need to drill down to lower timeframes for a trigger.......

such as using a psar break on the 1 or 5 minute chart would add precision to your entry......

the shorter the trade initially wallows around in the red the better.....

as for closing, you can see i was 1 hour late on closing those apex trades ...... that might be a poor example, but most of us have seen profit vanish......

darwins idea is less upfront drawdown and little profit give back.......

open and close attributes........

every little bit helps......h

Well Darwinex says this about the Open/Close Strategy Attributes:

  1. Open Strategy (Os)

Measures if the profitability of the strategy would have improved if the trader had opened trades a bit earlier or later.
The better the score, the more accurate the trader at opening trades.

Measures if the profitability of the strategy would have improved if the trader had closed trades a bit earlier or later.
The better the score, the more accurate the trader at closing trades.

Seems to me like picking bottoms and tops. Just say you only trade breakout strategies. Then your OS would always be a low score because you always get in late and would have very little to do with drawdown if only improving that attribute. So, I disagree that improving opening strategy reduces drawdown, because this will directly affect other attributes and in a lot of cases, maybe make drawdown worse.

I think Loss Aversion is to do with "maximum +/- price excursion during the trades life". Darwinex says this:

"The Loss aversion Attribute (La) evaluates whether a trading strategy exhibits symmetric behaviour independently of whether a position is winning or losing.
Many traders demonstrate an inability to close losing positions, often accumulating significant losses in the forlorn hope that the market will reverse course. These same traders often exhibit a tendency to close winning positions too early, prematurely taking profits.
When a trader lets losses run and closes winning positions quickly, they are said to suffer from the well known cognitive bias called loss aversion*.

  1. Maximum negative excursion

The depth of the red bars indicates the maximum unrealised percentage loss incurred in an open position in a given asset

  1. Maximum positive excursion

The height of the green bars indicates the maximum unrealised percentage gain incurred in an open position in a given asset.

I think this is the attribute that has more to do with drawdown and giving profit back.

hey cb..... that's a good question...... just a guess but the average drawdown of the top 10% would be between 13 and 15%......

my worst is 6.53%...... my average drawdown across all 20 accounts is 3.6%......

of course it is not fair to compare my results to the top 10%..... they have traded for much longer and thru wider variety of conditions......

the maximum drawdown since inception might be important......

the rating calculator uses the drawdown over the last 6 months i think.....

it might be more important.....h

Hi everyone,
I find it interesting that many discussions here focus heavily on theory. Maybe it helps if I just share what I actually do in practice and why I believe it works quite well for me.
My main approach is diversification across many different strategies. I'm currently running around 25–30 systems in parallel across different markets and styles.
For example, I run several Open Range Breakout strategies on instruments like Gold, USD pairs and NASDAQ. I also have some short-term scalping systems running on EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD and XAUUSD.
On top of that I use other approaches like a more adaptive grid strategy (which I would describe as a nice return stabilizer rather than a core alpha source). I mainly use that on Oil. I also run ATR breakout systems and a few trend-following strategies.
What matters most in my experience is not any single system, but the portfolio effect. Individual systems will always go through drawdown phases, but by running many uncorrelated approaches at the same time, the equity curve becomes much more stable.
I also regularly rebalance. If a system goes through a weak period, I may reduce risk, pause it, or rotate capital into other strategies. That risk management aspect is probably more important than the entry logic itself.
Besides the systematic side, I also take some discretionary trades occasionally. Those are usually medium-term swing trades held for several days or sometimes weeks, but they are not the main driver of performance.
If I had to summarize my "edge", it would simply be portfolio construction and diversification. Running many different strategies across different instruments and time horizons has worked much better for me than trying to optimize a single system to perfection.
Just my experience of course, but for me the mix makes the difference.

Do you have an example of how many trades you need during calibration to predict the risk multiplier, and what the math behind it looks like? Does everyone get a 25% discount code after opening a new DARWIN account? I haven't received one yet for the new DARWIN account that's currently being calibrated.

The average drawdown of the top 10 DARWINs is -19.1%. (-14, -20, -15, -29, -17, -13, -24, -22, -19, -18)
