VPS are a good way to use automated systems safely, because of the stability of the connection and the fact that they are 24/24 online.
But VPS crashes. Even the best VPS WILL eventually crash one day
So if you have an EA on this VPS, the trading updates wil be disconnected.
If you use only hard coded SL and TP then it's not a problem because an opened trade will take care of itself. But you will obviously miss new trades.
Some VPS services include a tool that will automatically reconnects to the VPS (inputing the login and password) and restart the MT4s you were using before the crash. But a standart VPS doesn't have this tool.
So what is that trick to make a VPS safer ? Well you have to multiply the connections.
You can program your EA to work on two VPS simultaneously. Of course you have to be careful that it won't open two times the orders. But it can be done quite easily
Or, you can put one EA that opens/manages orders on one VPS and another EA that only manages the opened trades (TS for instance)
You can even use your regular PC AND 2 VPS for 3 simultaneous connections, or use more cheap VPS as a backup plan.
Then you will have the most stable/secure trading conditions that will very unlikely fail you
hope it helps
