What I've found is mindfulness and mediation are nearly opposites.
And yes, there are many types of meditation and many reactions for people; about as many experiences as there are individuals but I've done nearly all of them.
Meditation is seen as a means of clearing without focusing. Most people can't seem to understand the concept of the space between thoughts because their lives are so task oriented they can't grasp life without being engaged in something. So meditation takes on the same flavor, i.e. it has to have an outcome or a goal. This is typically counterproductive since any sense of focus activates the cognitive processes and in turn starts the mental wheels rolling again.
The idea of meditation is typically to eradicate focus and find the calm of pure silence. Again, as many definitions as individuals. I use several types. I used to practice TM for years but found I didn't really like the mantra aspect that much so now I simply catch myself when I'm meditating every time I'm beginning to think again and start over at nothing, more like mindfulness with a TM twist.
regard most others inputs, especially when they've only experienced the topic once or twice and not for decades or even a few years. Plus, not caring is one of the more pleasurable side effects of effective meditation.
As far as for trading? Again, meditation is not about outcome, not like that anyway. Meditation done effectively typically will effect all aspects of life favorably; everything from roller coasters to intimacy. Anything else would be closer to hypnosis, guided imagery or mindfulness.
My two yen's worth.
