hi thelynx
my guess would be it s because of the delay.
in backtest the order is executes immediatly without delay (0ms) whereas in live or forward test the delay is important
i ve tested a momentum EA by Rockit, in backtest 90% modeling, the success was huge like 100$ to 50000000$ in a month (yes really!), with an instant execution,
but forward test (or tickdata backtest 99.9% modeling with real delay), the EA was losing.
i ve a VPS with 2 ms latency, but the orders are executed in about 150ms, enough to lose..hope it will help!!
