I watch a number of USD/xxx and xxx/USD currencies. You can really get a feel for dollar sentiment this way. It is not uncommon for dollar-crosses to all be bullish simultaneously or bearish simultaneously. In other words, often times it doesn't ...

That is very significant. The difference is a 42.9% increase in the amount of pips earned over the year. Thanks for the info!!

I see. Thanks!

I'm not a programmer. But I was looking over your code here and noticed that some of the stops and take-profit levels are pretty large. Forgive me if I'm completely off-base here, but do you really want a 2000 pip stop loss?

Looking at the weekly, one could put on quite a great short right now. The stop level would be at 242.00, just above the previous shoulders. The yen could run a very long way down if deleveraging forces the carry traders to begin unwinding. Awesome ...

I know why they don't — Hedge funds typically have a few billion in assets under management. Much of that is leveraged (borrowed). It would probably be pretty hard to borrow a few billion smackers to go to Vegas. But let's say you did. Let's ...

It is possible to apply the same philosophy. I do it all the time. Markets are markets. It is all about probability and psychology. To back this up, I will steer you to the James16 thread and watch as he trades not only FX but oil and indexes using ...

Suggestion — Ok, I'm at work right now so I don't have the luxury of having FOREX charts. however, I did pull this up on S&P500 and DX. Instead of buying the break of the last four days on an RSI 50 cross, it looks like you're better off to ...

No worries, Acko! Just wanted to know what the MAs can show I'm eyeballing a chart right now with this RSI entry set-up. This type of system should be easy enough to program and test its validity. Any programmers want to lend a quick hand?
- megadave5000 replied Oct 12, 2007
Acko - What do you mean by using MAs to "show the breakout"? Price is either within or beyond the range of the last four days. Thanks in advance. Bullrock - What RSI period are you using? What are your exits?

Yuppie - I agree, there probably isn't a benefit at all to the period bias in the MAs when applying this technique to currencies. In that case of equities, I can see the reason for a 20% difference in the MA period as stocks tend to peel off much ...

moving averages — Funny, I am using a VERY similar strategy. I was using a 100 smoothed moving average and an 8 period smoothed ma both in MT4. To my surprise, the 200ema and the 100smma are the same thing! Also, the 8smma and the 21ema are ...

You did a nice analysis of the pros and cons of a small take profit / large stop loss trading plan. Pro: easy to hit the TP level Con: one wrong move and you give up a substantial profit. Granted, I haven't retired with an 80 foot yacht and a ...

Awesome, you're very welcome. There's a lot of good information in the James16 thread. I doubt you'll ever get through it all - after a while you'll have wrapped your head around the concepts that the price action patterns James describes will be ...

another alternative — Here is another possible alternative. Some 401(k) providers will allow you to take a loan out against your funds - for instance my employer allows up to 50% of the balance of the 401(k) to be loaned out (up to certain ...

Tony, thanks for the overview! I think I've seen point & line explained before, but not to the extent here. I will have to give this a second, more thorough look. I'll check it out! The best quote I've read today is, "The market is going down like ...
