A public petition against U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s suspension of parliament passed the 1 million signature milestone within its first 24 hours as protests broke out across the country. The Queen on Wednesday approved Johnson’s plan to suspend parliament from September 9 to October 14, a highly controversial move which would restrict parliamentary time for opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) to try to block the U.K. leaving the European Union without a deal on October 31.
