Inflation rate at +7.3% in March 2022
The inflation rate in Germany, measured as the year-on-year change in the consumer price index (CPI), stood at +7.3% in March 2022. In February 2022, it had been +5.1%. Inflation in March 2022 thus reached its highest level since German reunification. Similarly high inflation rates in the former territory of the Federal Republic were last recorded in autumn 1981 when mineral oil prices had markedly increased as a result of the first Gulf war between Iraq and Iran.
