In the week ending August 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 375,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 2,000 from 385,000 to 387,000. The 4-week moving average was 396,250, an increase of 1,750 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 500 from 394,000 to 394,500. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.1 percent for the week ending July 31, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week's revised rate. U.S. jobless claims fall as labor market recovery continues
The number of Americans filing claims for unemployment benefits fell last week, a sign that the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to gather momentum. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 375,000 for the week ended August 7. Data for the prior week was revised to show 2,000 more applications received than previously reported. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 375,000 applications for the latest week.
