Don’t bet on a ‘no deal’ Brexit after a UK election
A ‘no deal’ Brexit on 31 October now looks pretty unlikely. Admittedly so do the chances of a deal being agreed with the EU and approved by Parliament over the coming days. Negotiations are on the verge of breaking down amid a lack of agreement on customs alignment on the island of Ireland. Come the 19 October, the absence of a deal would mean the government will be obliged to seek an Article 50 extension. If it doesn’t, the issue is likely to quickly find its way into the courts - but one way or another a further delay to the Brexit process is probable.
