Monet painting 'Meules' sells for more than $110M at auction
A Claude Monet painting sold for $110.7 million at Sotheby’s auction house in Manhattan on Tuesday — the first time any impressionist painting has fetched more than $100 million at auction. Monet’s celebrated “Meules,” which was sold in Manhattan, last hit the auction block in 1986. Another Monet piece from same “Haystack” series was sold in 2016 at Christie’s for $81.4 million. Tuesday’s sale is one of the 10 highest prices ever seen at auction. The buyer was not identified.
