Euro slippage was initially the main feature of the offshore session – since largely reversed – starting just as the Sydney market left for the day and following a Der Spiegel report that the Berlin division of the SPD would reject the vote to form a grand coalition with Merkel’s party. Once investors noted that this division only casts 23 votes out of 600 at this Sunday’s conference, the news was soon brushed off.
