I quickly realised the continually flashing numbers were too distracting from the main business of watching the price action.
In MT4 programming, the current live bar is referred to as bar0 and the previous completed bar is bar1. In accordance with post 1, it is the values of the completed bar1 that determine whether a signal exists. However, bar0 does give me a heads up as to the likely state of bar1.
Accordingly, I have removed any numerical values from the top line, and just replaced them with an arrow to indicate the indicators moving into a green bullish phase or a red bearish phase. This arrow is repeated for the bar1 line, which then displays the numerical values. This calms things down considerably, allowing your attention to remain focused on price action.
However, as FJ says, the role of indicators is to train your eye, and the goal is to do away with them altogether.
