Public sector finances, UK: July 2019

Borrowing (public sector net borrowing excluding public sector banks) in July 2019 was in surplus by £1.3 billion, a £2.2 billion smaller surplus than in July 2018; July 2018 remains the highest July surplus since 2000. Self-assessed Income Tax was £9.4 billion in July 2019, which is £0.3 billion more than in July 2018; late payments mean that the proportion of self-assessed taxes recorded in July and August can vary year-on-year, and it is therefore advisable to consider these two months together.
