The total trade deficit (goods and services) narrowed £4.6 billion to £12.6 billion in the three months to May 2019, due mainly to the trade in goods deficit narrowing £4.6 billion to £39.7 billion. Falling imports of machinery and transport equipment, and chemicals were the main drivers in the narrowing of the trade in goods deficit in the three months to May 2019.
