Rare Harry Potter book bought at yard sale could fetch thousands at auction

A worn-out first edition copy of “Harry Potter” — bought second-hand for roughly $1 twenty years ago — could fetch up to $37,000 at an auction this month. The rare hardback copy of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” is one of just 500 original copies, published in 1997 complete with misspellings and typos, a rep from Hansons Auctioneers, which is handling the sale, told SWNS. The novel’s owner, a 54-year-old office worker from Stafford, England, said he bought one as a vacation read around 1999. “I thought nothing of it at the time.
